About Me

All people experience difficulties and challenges at some point in their lives. Working through the challenges of creating a more fulfilling and happier life can be both difficult and rewarding. I appreciate the courage needed to take those first steps toward change. If you are ready to take that step, I will provide a safe space for you, and I am here to support you and help you become healthy and empowered.

I have 13 years of experience working with individuals and families as a family therapist and behavior analyst. I am a practicing psychotherapist and hold a license as an Independent Marriage and Family Therapist in Ohio and as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. I completed my Ph.D. and hold a doctorate in Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine. Additionally, I have two years of advanced education and training in Applied Behavior Analysis and hold certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in California as well as a license as a Behavior Analyst in Washington.

I have helped people with a wide range of concerns including posttraumatic stress disorder, childhood sexual abuse and sexual assault, depression, anxiety, attachment and parenting issues, relationship and family issues, career and academic challenges, decision-making, and problem-solving. Other related experience includes teaching behavior analysis and supervising the fieldwork of behavior analyst interns and clinical mental health counseling graduate students. I have a particular interest in helping veterans and working with them on a variety of issues and concerns. Military veterans and their families are my primary clinical focus.
As a behavior analyst, I have extensive experience working with families of children with special needs, including autism, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, and other special needs. I create behavior plans for the individual as well as work with parents and caregivers in grief, loss, and acceptance and support them and their needs under very challenging life circumstances.

My counseling style is warm and interactive and is grounded in wellness and pragmatism with a client-focused, strength-based approach. I employ an empathic, direct, and practical counseling style, using a wide range of evidenced based tools to make our time most meaningful and enhance your everyday life concerns. I view clients through a developmental lens and use an eclectic approach from an evidenced based perspective and meet people where they are, and with techniques and interventions to best match their unique needs and perspectives. This includes skillful and strategic use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), object relations, family systems, Gestalt, and narrative therapies, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), with an individualized, person-centered focus and psychodynamic/existential theoretical framework. I have worked extensively with individuals, groups, and families. While helping people develop tools and skills to empower them and help them achieve their goals, I support people through their process and share their journey. Empathy, compassion, trust, and respect are cornerstones of my approach.

I use a holistic and eclectic approach and flexible, regular interventions customized for the individual and believe a good relationship between therapist and client is key to the process of counseling. Please let me know what you want to achieve through the counseling experience (such as working on long-term issues that may go back to childhood or a very direct treatment plan for a specific concern, such as lifestyle changes, a particular phobia, or social anxiety). I bring a wealth of scholarship and academic knowledge to the practice of psychotherapy and seek to build a collaborative bond with clients in order to work together to achieve better mental health. The online platform allows for creativity in using this approach in terms of length of sessions, time of sessions, and strategic contacts. I seek to be of service to those who could take advantage of the convenience, flexibility, and mobility that online has to offer and will offer thoughtful and deliberate interventions with persons who desire a compassionate, reflective, and genuine presence in their lives.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Dr. Jeannine Ray. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Written by H.A. on Mar 05, 2022 after therapy with Jeannine for 2 years and 9 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, family conflicts, sleeping disorders, self esteem, career difficulties, and coping with life changes

Dr. Ray is a wealth of knowledge and compassion. I appreciate her ongoing, non bias view of the world. She constantly does a jedi mind trick to flip my view of situations and opens new ways of thinking. I deeply appreciate that. I know I have to keep the work up to see results, so it's lots of the same reoccurring thoughts and aha moments I present to Dr. Ray. I feel I do have some progress to show in this process, and I'm very grateful for her and these tools she's equipping me with.

Written by A.S. on Jan 21, 2022 after therapy with Jeannine for 1 year and 5 months on issues concerning relationship issues, family conflicts, trauma and abuse, grief, and intimacy-related issues

She was everything I needed her to be! Her way of bringing out your innermost thoughts to get to the heart of the matter is effective. She has a delicate way of being blatant and opening your eyes to reality without shaming. In times when I needed to send her novels over text she was always responsive and willing to work with my schedule for appointments. Highly recommended!

Honestly, I'm reluctant to write a crazy good review (which she totally deserves) because that means I might have a harder time getting an appointment with her!

In all seriousness, she's the best and anyone who got matched with her would be extremely fortunate. She listens to me, challenges me to dig deep and break apart what i'm feeling. It's much more work but work worth doing and has made me a better person.

Written by N.A. on Dec 06, 2019 after therapy with Jeannine for 4 months on issues concerning family conflicts

Dr. Ray has been supportive of me about things that I don’t have other people to talk to. I can spot a phony from far away and I don’t feel that way with her. I trust her with my feelings. She’s challenged me to make some changes in myself that were/are hard to do and I’m forever grateful for that.
