About me

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate in North Carolina with 5 years of experience in providing direct mental health and behavioral counseling. I have worked with individuals and couples ages 18 to 80 with a variety of mental health/behavioral presenting issues such as: anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, addiction, phase-of-life problems, relationship and family issues, sexuality concerns, and many more. As a standard practice, I approach the therapeutic relationship with sensitivity and respect for multi/cross-cultural factors and influence.

My experience is in both intensive inpatient treatment and private practice work. I believe our belief systems strongly influence our thoughts, feelings, and actions toward many activating events in our lives and help shape us into the people we are today and the decisions we make daily. I believe that all individuals are heavily influenced by our closest relationships, communities, environment, systems (family, work, school, church, etc) and personal experiences. I strive to treat the therapeutic relationship, and you, with compassion, respect, and warmth.

I specialize in person-centered, trauma-sensitive therapy. I take an eclectic approach using motivational interviewing, CBT, mindfulness and inner child work. I have a passion for working with clients who struggle with codependency, dysfunctional family-of-origin dynamics and those who are going through life transitions (including graduations, new relationships, job change, pregnancy, infertility and loss, parenthood, divorce, bereavement and retirement). I take a psychodynamic approach, meaning I believe the past influences the present when it comes to experiences and relationships with others.

Throughout my career, I have learned how to walk alongside my clients as they trudge through trauma, grief and shame — identifying self-defeating thoughts and patterns and providing tools and interventions to create lasting change. I think therapy should be fun. The environment I like to create is informal and comfortable, focusing on what you need rather than on how you think you need to act. You have already taken steps to care for yourself! I would love to help continue the journey with you!

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for JENA PLUMMER. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Jena is able to provide a warm and safe space to explore yourself and help using all of her vast knowledge and tools. She possesses the ability to truly treat you as an individual and work with you, I truly am so grateful for having her because I now have a place to go that is judgement free and benefits my mental health and overall life in ways I’d always hoped.
