About me

My goal as a therapist is to help people find healing & joy in their lives so that they can live as they were created to & reach out beyond themselves.

I have been a therapist for nearly 15 years and worked with people of all ages (children, teens, families, parents, adults, couples) using a variety of therapy modalities including: cognitive, Christian, art, sand-tray & play therapies. I tend to use a person and strength based approach to therapy, which means I go where my clients need/want to go and I encourage the strengths I see in them while also promoting growth in other areas.

I have experience in helping people develop healthier coping skills for stress, anxiety, anger, grief & depression, as well as, improve relationships with their children, spouses and extended families. Some of my favorite things to do are to help clients see the good in their lives, then dream of the future and develop practical steps towards achieving those dreams. It is very fulfilling to see people make progress in areas they desire to see change, and to recognize their on strengths!

A few stats:
1997--graduated from Northland Pines High School in WI
2000--completed my BA in psychology and art at Bethel College/University in MN
2003--earned my MA in Marriage & Family Therapy & Art Therapy at Notre Dame de Namur University in CA
2008--obtained my Art Therapy license
2012--became a Licensed Professional Therapist in WI
Each year I continue to expand my cross-cultural experiences on mission trips & hone my clinical skills with ongoing education.

This app helps in ways you won’t expect, but you have to give it a chance and be willing to be totally transparent and honest with yourself and your counselor. It gives you all the tools you need to find better mental health.

Jennifer is great. She is very patient and consistent, even when you aren’t. She always lends an open ear and approaches situations to “better help” you in your mental health journey. This experience has been really beneficial to me.

Jennifer has been extremely helpful to me during a difficult time in my life when my anxieties ran high. She's given me many insights to myself that I plan to use for the future and I can't wait to keep growing and working on myself!

I’ve been speaking with Jennifer Alward for around a year or so. I started with my primary’s recommendation to talk to someone for anxiety and stress. She was very helpful in those times, even when I had to take some time away due to financial reasons. I’ve recently come back and it’s like we left off just yesterday, but now she’s helping with more areas of my life as well as the previous issues. She listens and truly seems to care about how she responds and helps.
