Hi! Congratulations on taking this first step! I'm excited to work with you.
I have 18 years of experience working in the mental health field, and 10 of those years I've spent providing direct psychotherapy. Here on Betterhelp things are less traditional and I use my skills to provide coaching and support to those seeking virtual help that are not in crisis. My style is warm, person-centered, and direct. I believe we all have an innate ability to heal from really difficult situations, and sometimes it helps to talk with a professional to get in touch with that strength and inner knowing in yourself. Because of this, I naturally integrate education on nervous system regulation into our work together, because I believe that is an essential part of healing and feeling safe. When you work with me, you will get honest feedback, motivational support to be your authentic self and to have the kind of life and relationships you want to have. I hold space for you to strategize and problem solve, and I reflect back strengths you can use in yourself to improve your situation starting now, not years from now.I also believe we have the potential to thrive in our lives, that we don't just have to survive and get by day-to-day. Clients have described me as compassionate, no-nonsense, intuitive, educational and able to direct a conversation toward the "meat of the matter" or the heart of the problem and work directly with a person's motivation to make positive change in their life. This can be a lot of fun, even if some of the stuff we are working with is messy or hard. Did I mention I love my job?!
My areas of specialization and extensive training are in the field of trauma and addiction-- but that does not mean I am limited to these areas, rather my skill set in these areas allows me to work more intuitively with mood and other behavior problems. I work a lot with people wanting to learn how to manage anger in a systematic, structured way that is tailored to a person's learning style and situation. I also work a great deal with individuals struggling with anxiety, depressive symptoms, relationship problems (with their significant other, with their children or parents or friends), people struggling with motivation, or self esteem issues. I have advanced training in Somatic Experiencing (google it!) and this often guides my approach in getting in touch with a person's own inner healing resources, and can be an added bonus to your experience, in general. I draw from a broad range of theories but tend to gravitate toward psychodynamic, attachment oriented, and humanistic existential understandings. Additionally, I offer cognitive behavioral, solution focused and motivational approaches that include CPT, IFS models, control mastery perspectives, DBT, lots of stress reduction and relaxation methods that incorporate mindfulness and body techniques (yes, this stuff can be taught on Betterhelp!). I have practiced in the following treatment environments: inpatient, outpatient, schools, college mental health, residential homes, shelters, intensive outpatient programs, veterans programs, and outpatient clinics. I have provided supervision, education and individual, couples and group counseling. And Betterhelp!

Jennifer is very prompt. She seems to be able to understand my concerns
After a long down period in my life, I hesitantly turned to therapy. I chose Jennifer as my councillor and it's one of the best decisions I've made.
She was able to identify and guide me through my issues. Each session she would provide me with tasks to complete during the week that would help me bring back my confidence. My outlook on life has changed thank to her. If I ever find myself stuck in dark period again I would trust her to help me find the answers.
Thank you so much for your help :)
She’s kind and understanding, but she’s also positive. I like that she aims to help you move forward. Doesn’t just listen with no feedback.
Jennifer helped me SO much I’m really lucky that she’s my councilor.
I love Jennifer. She is patient with my progress and always roots for me to get better. She is kind when I have to change sessions last minute. She is one of the best therapists I've ever talked to.
Jennifer is an amazing counselor and has so much knowledge and many gifts to share. I met with over 5 counselors before I found her, I knew that I was going to find the right fit eventually, and I’m so glad I listened to my intuition and kept searching. I’m so grateful for Jennifer, she has been helping me heal and change in all the ways I’ve needed and I will continue to speak with her regularly as I continue my journey. She’s the best!!
Jennifer has so much wisdom to share. She listens empathetically, but then she gives me ways to fill my own toolbox so that I can start to take better care of myself. I would recommend her to anyone who is having difficulty, dealing with family issues, stress, chaos and/or unresolved trauma.
Right from our very first session together Jennifer has lent me kindness and support in every way I needed it. I feel blessed that I reached out when I did. I’ve had limited experience with counseling but this experience was so positive for me it opened me up to pursue even more support in other ways which has been amazing. My heart is filled with gratitude! I think BetterHelp is a wonderful option making finding support that much more accessible! If your feeling hopeless or lost don’t give up because there is someone out there that can help you find your way back to yourself! You’re not alone! Xo
I have been working with Jennifer for a couple of months now and my mind and life outlook have improved noticeably.
She is incredibly intelligent, articulate, intuitive, direct and gets it. Jennifer has a brilliant sense of humor and her way works for me. She helps me to recognize patterns and addictions and identify ways to become unstuck. I am now embracing and observing my emotions whilst thinking of practical solutions. It has been a good connection and partnership; I enjoy our conversations and look forward to our weekly sessions.
Thank you to Jennifer and Betterhelp for this service. Mindfulness in body and soul is key to moving me forwards in this here thing we call life.
Jennifer has been helping me through a very rough time in my life. Her approach is wise and real - so she won't sugar coat. She asks me the right questions and guides me in making the changes I need to make in my life to be happier. In a few short months I feel I've gained great insight into why I do some of things I do and I'm actioning the change I need in my life.
Jennifer is very attentive and professional provides personalized support. I think she really does care for me and always reminds me to set up appointments and apply skills we have worked on developing.
Honestly, I was afraid of signing up for therapy because I thought my counsellor was only there for my money and would judge me for my problems. I was so glad I was proven wrong.
Jennifer Harrison is a great counsellor who only wants the best for her clients. She was nothing but encouraging and non-judgmental with her advice and viewpoint of my situation. She goes above and beyond (she replied on her off day when I couldn't stop crying uncontrollably), gave me grounding techniques to help with my anxiety and improved my life significantly.
I can't thank or recommend her enough! Before talking to her, I was isolating myself and crying everyday in my room. At her advice, I've gotten an in-person counsellor, reached out to my supportive friends and am planning to start a charity bake sale.
After only a few sessions I feel confident that I am receiving care and counseling from Jennifer that is professional, considerate, yet also direct and beneficial. It's not a fuzzy experience, but it has helped me develop insightful perspectives I could not achieve alone.
I haven't been working with Jennifer for very long (only a couple of weeks) but so far, I find her insightful and helpful in helping me find solutions for myself. She asks great questions and puts effort into getting to know you all around, not just the problems that you want to address but other things that you may not realize influence your thoughts.
This process generated anxiety for me in the beginning, because I made a "gamble" by paying upfront for a service I had never tried -- online, text based therapy. But I did it because I needed help. So when it took a few days to start the process -- introductions, validations, getting started -- I felt panicky about justifying this budget item with my family (my husband was opposed to the online-format, and I asked him to let me try). Now it's working well, and I feel that the opportunity to write my thoughts out helps me realize things on my own. And Jennifer is able to tease out what I need to work on now, and she's sharing helpful concepts. I like having the ability to go back to what we wrote. I appreciate that Jennifer handled my initial anxiety in a constructive and understanding manner, and helping me by letting me know when she would respond and why the given delay. Now that we're in a rhythm, I can say that I appreciate Jennifer's thoroughness and responsiveness to what I write. She is helpful in naming the healthy behaviors I engage in; in suggesting other ones; in asking questions to consider alternatives. I'm happy to continue on this journey with her.
Jennifer is thoughtful, insightful, and asks all the right questions.
Jen is a wonderfully compassionate and understanding woman. At a difficult time she provided me with a safe place to talk and sort through a jumble of thoughts and feelings, and I appreciated her guidance and time.
Jennifer helped me more in a few weeks on Betterhelp than several months of face-to-face therapy did. She is very kind, understanding and insightful, and always replied to me within a day! Thank you again, Jennifer!
Jennifer is an amazing person and a great counsellor. She really helped me get through a very difficult time. I am very much grateful to her for all her help.
I would recommend her to all.
Jennifer helped me to get through a very tough time in my life. When I began psychotherapy with her, I felt overwhelmed and unable to cope. After 4 weeks, I felt strong and and able and the things that were bothering me felt smaller and manageable. From early on in the process, I've had a lot more clarity about the root causes of my problems and practical measures I could take to make my life and relationships work better.
Jennifer is great! She's very insightful and quick to identify problems, ask the right questions and give the right advice. In just two weeks she helped me come to terms with my past choices and gave me hope for the future, I couldn't ask for more.
Jennifer has been amazing, with a great understanding of my partners somewhat unusual situation. And very supportive of me during this difficult time!
Working with Jennifer has been helpful and encouraging.
Jennifer is incredibly helpful and supportive. I have really noticed a difference in my life from working with her!!
I have found Jennifer really helpful and extremely accurate. She can interpret my struggle to explain my feelings and problems.
I found Jennifer to be an excellent counsellor - very attentive, extremely insightful especially given the online context, and helpful with providing advice and giving another perspective to my situation.
Jennifer has been a real good help to me, she is always there when you need her. She is very knowledgable and good at what she does, highly recommended.
Jennifer was very intuitive, and easily accessible. I found her insights to be very helpful.
In just a few months, Jennifer helped me go from terribly depressed to feeling hopeful and positive, enough to start a new business. I can't thank her enough for helping me see how my own faulty thinking was behind all my problems. I'm doing great now!
Jennifer has really been helping me through a tough time, I know I can count on her for quick responses if I'm feeling low. She gives me great unbiased insight that I try to use everyday.
Jennifer has been supportive and quick to respond, always. She has given me many helpful tools to support a healthier relationship with myself. Thank you for your genuine caring.
Everything you would want in a therapist! Astute listener, very perceptive, knowledgeable about symptoms, full of good suggestions and very encouraging!
Very good listener (so to speak), very attentive to everything, and picks out the problems very well. Is good at specifying feelings, as nebulous as they may start, and has very good suggestions for things that may help.
Jennifer is great. I really like working with her.
