Change. Expectations. Reality. Navigating through life can be challenging and it takes courage to reach out for help.
I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW, I.1600352) in Ohio. I hold a Bachelor of Arts from The McGregor School of Antioch University (now Antioch University Midwest) and a Master's in Social Work from The Ohio State University. I began my career in social services 12 years ago as a homeless services program director. Through that work I came to recognize that I wished to work directly with individuals. I pursued my Master's in Social Work and have been practicing since my graduation in 2012.
My counseling approach is best described by Fred Rogers' statement "Anything that's human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable." I am committed to providing a safe, sex-positive, affirming space for individuals regardless of gender identity, sexuality, and/or sexual expression. I believe how and who you love is yours to define, providing there is respect and care, consent and compassion. I am committed to working with you, regardless of how you define your family and your relationships, whether you thrive as part of a couple or a thruple, in an open relationship or a monogamous one, or any of the wonderful combinations that comprise the full spectrum of human sexual expression.
I have assisted individuals and families struggling with depression, anxiety, family and relationship challenges, and career issues, in both crisis and ongoing treatment settings. I have helped those who have experienced physical trauma or physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, engage and navigate the healing process. I have also had the honor of providing clinical case management for U.S. Veterans on a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) in a primary care setting with the U.S. Veterans Administration.
Together we will empower you to establish and reach your counseling goals. My counseling style is interactive and nurturing. I am committed to creating a trauma-informed, affirming, compassionate safe space for individuals and families to explore their needs, establish goals, and seek positive, lasting change. My counseling approach is a combination of dialectical-behavior therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and integrated family and systems treatment.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about my counseling background and approach.
I look forward to working with you!

Jenn is so wonderful! She is so reassuring, understanding and respectful. She always knows how to help me when I am struggling, but most of all, she is easy to talk to. She doesn't make the healing process difficult; she makes it simple and exciting!
Jennifer has taught me that a mental health professional is as important as any other medical professional. At time she might be more important. We have a great working relationship partially because I feel both of use have a great deal of respect for each other. This process is like peeling an onion, layer by layer. she gives me the encouragement to keep pealing. She also has been able to understand this is a difficult process. I am very lucky to have her on my medical/mental team.
If Jennifer Kowalski is not the best counselor offered by BetterHelp, then I would be completely surprised. She is outstanding! She genuinely understands my thoughts and feelings to the tee. She provides such great feedback and advice. I cannot imagine anyone better than Jennifer!
Jennifer gets it. She is careful with her words and makes sure she is meeting you where you are at. She is compassionate and uses her knowledge and wisdom to create a safe place to work together.
