My name is Jennifer Lee and I am a licensed clinical social worker in California. I have worked for 4 years as a therapist in a community mental health clinic helping adults who struggle with sadness, loneliness, fear, anxiety, memories of traumatic experiences, loss of control and relationship problems. Prior to that, I worked and volunteered for over 10 years at social service agencies helping survivors of domestic violence, documented and undocumented immigrants, and homeless women, men and children.
My professional experiences have come to shape the way I approach the therapeutic relationships I have with my clients. I believe all of my clients are experts of their own lives who don’t need someone to tell them what to do or what’s best for them. I believe all of my clients have strengths – recognized and unrecognized – that can play a role in their journey to health and well-being. Finally, I believe all of my clients can achieve their health and wellness goals with appropriate support, encouragement and care. To help my clients achieve their goals, I pay close attention to what my clients communicate to me about what they need and want to make their lives better. I encourage my clients to draw from their strengths and, with empathy and acceptance, I work alongside my clients as they focus on achieving the goals they set for themselves.
When I am working with my clients, I draw from and utilize different theories and therapeutic approaches such as: cognitive-behavioral therapy, attachment theory, narrative therapy, empowerment, mindfulness and trauma-informed therapies. Also, I view my clients as whole persons whose physical, social, spiritual and environmental health are as important as and interconnected with their psychological and emotional health. With this in mind, I strive to help my clients not only find relief from the psychological and emotional suffering they may be experiencing right now but also achieve and maintain optimal health and wellness in all areas of their lives.
