About me

Hi!!

My name is Jennifer Packer, MSW, LICSW, PIP, CSW. What that means is that I have a Masters degree in social work (MSW), I am a licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW) in Alabama with privileges to do private independent practice (PIP). I am also a Certified Social Worker (CSW) by the state of Georgia.

I graduated from Tuskegee University with a Bachelor's degree in social work in 2006. I later graduated from Alabama A&M University with a master's degree in social work in 2008. While attending college, I fell in love with social work. Even as a child, I have always had a passion for helping people.

Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work with various types of populations. I started my career working at child protection services. I worked with the state of Alabama for about 3 years and later with private foster care agencies for about 4 years. Once I earned my LICSW, I began to work as a psychotherapist, specializing in working with the geriatric population. Most recently I have been working with adults with severe mental illness placed in correctional facilities. I have experience with working with adults diagnosed with depression, anxiety, Bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other severe mental illnesses and disorders.

I have a very easygoing approach to therapy. I find it important to treat the person and not just the illness. What that means is I believe people are not just symptoms but individuals who are a reflection of their experiences and circumstances. I like to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) because I believe if you change the way you think you change the way you behave. I will also use other therapies such as mindfulness, solution-focused, and client-centered techniques. Although I am more familiar with CBT, when I work with clients I make sure to provide individualized services based solely on the clients’ needs.

Awesome and understanding!

Jennifer has helped me learn so much about myself that I constantly put off or didn’t know that was okay for me to understand. She has constantly been there as a source of support, caring, understanding, and is such a good active listener who THEN gives helpful advice! She’s wonderful and I’d recommend her to anyone.
