My name is Jennifer Packer, MSW, LICSW, PIP, CSW. What that means is that I have a Masters degree in social work (MSW), I am a licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW) in Alabama with privileges to do private independent practice (PIP). I am also a Certified Social Worker (CSW) by the state of Georgia.
I graduated from Tuskegee University with a Bachelor degree in social work in 2006. I later graduated from Alabama A&M University with a masters degree in social work in 2008. While attending college, I fell in love with social work. Even as a child, I have always had a passion for helping people.
Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work with various types of populations. I started my career working at child protection services. I worked with the state of Alabama for about 3 years and later with private foster care agencies for about 4 years. Once I earned my LICSW, I began to work as a psychotherapist, specializing in working with the geriatric population. Most recently I have been working with adults with severe mental illness placed in correctional facilities. I have experience with working with adults diagnosed with depression, anxiety, Bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and other severe mental illnesses and disorders.
I have a very easygoing approach to therapy. I find it important to treat the person and not just the illness. What that means is I believe people are not just symptoms but individuals who are a reflection of their experiences and circumstances. I like to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) because I believe if you change the way you think you change the way you behave. I will also use other therapies such as mindfulness, solution-focused and client-centered techniques. Although I am more familiar with CBT, when I work with clients I make sure to provide individualized services based solely on the clients’ needs.
- Stress, Anxiety
- Trauma and abuse
- Self esteem
- Career difficulties
I also have experience in Relationship issues, Family conflicts, Grief, Intimacy-related issues, Parenting issues, Anger management, Bipolar disorder, Depression

Jennifer really does her best to ensure that her clients are working towards their goals and does her best to help out.
Jennifer was fantastic about getting back to me and sending me things that might help. She always helped me look at things in a different perspective and made me feel comfortable in asking for help and seeking change in my life.
Jennifer has been very timely with responding to my questions and needs as well as professional. The worksheets that were provided to me helped me realize there are ways of coping with my issues in a manner that can make me feel like I am growing as an individual. I am happy with my decision to get counseling, and BetterHelp is a convenient source since I have such a busy schedule.
Jennifer is wonderful. She's absorbent and resourceful. A clearheaded professional. Absolutely nurturing to a better self. I only wish I had more time of day to sit down and talk with her. I would definitely recommend her expertise.
Jennifer has been extremely real and honest and helpful to me I look forward to our upcoming sessions as our first few have been so beneficial to my life. I can express my gratitude to her, and to her availability to be by my side.
Jennifer is a great councilor and has helped me so much I would recommend her to any one.
