About Me

Hello, I am Jennifer Semaan, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Virginia. I earned my Bachelors Degree in Psychology from the Lebanese American University, in Beirut, Lebanon, and later earned my Masters and Ed.S. degrees from James Madison University, Virginia, in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Since working in the mental health field, I gained tons of experience working with various populations, including refugees and immigrants, college students, children and families, and most recently, the forensic population.
I provide Cognitive Behavioral Therapy services, specializing in mood (depression and bipolar), anxiety, and psychotic disorders, while maintaining a trauma-informed clinical approach. I have extensive training in a range of interventions, and often derive techniques from various schools of thought to best meet my clients' needs. I provide therapy in both, English and Arabic, and recently earned my certificate as a Qualified Professional Behavioral Health Interpreter from the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.
I look forward to working with you and assisting you in overcoming life's challenges by providing a safe, empathetic, and judgment-free clinical setting.

Jen is everything you could possibly want or need in a counsellor. In my own case she has respectfully taken into account my personality, emotional state and where I am in my life to best fit how I can deal with issues I have. She listens and gives me the space to work out in my own way how I perceive a given situation. This has helped me grow as it's allowed me to be confident in my own thoughts, something I've struggled with. I could compare it to driving a car. I decide how fast I'm going on this journey and where I'm going, Jen has the brakes just in case. She is great at giving me multiple angles on a given situation and correlating to past behaviors and asking if it resonates rather than stating it as fact. If every counsellor had the approach that Jen has to counseling I believe more people would access this service and because of her willingness to support and guide me I feel I've made a life changing decision for the good.

The best!! My first time counseling and honestly she's made the whole experience much easier. Jennifer offers great worksheets and methods to help you better understand the reason behind how you're feeling. Could not recommend her or Betterhelp more!

I've always had bad experiences with counseling from the military, but I have thoroughly enjoyed my counseling sessions with Jennifer. She is very attentive and understanding, and she helps me feel less hopeless. I've come to realize a lot about myself thanks to her techniques and thought provoking questions.
