About me

I have been a social worker for 23 years. The majority of my career was spent in trauma and loss, foster care and special needs adoption. I have experience with young adults who have grown up in the foster care system, both those who were adopted and those who aged out of the system. I also have extensive experience in grief and loss issues following the loss of a loved one having counseled adults and children in that area. I am currently a full-time school social worker and have experience dealing with typical siblings of non-typical siblings and the issues this brings into a family, even after adulthood.

I have experience helping couples deal with fertility issues, grief and loss, and the loss of a child. I have also worked with parents following the death of an older child, or an adult child who passed away.

My background is varied, as are my beliefs and practice areas. I personally, am a person of faith, however come from a politically and societal liberal base. I think many of us fit into this, although it can feel very isolating in today's climate. I have successfully worked with adults of all faith, or no faith basis at all depending on what my client was most comfortable with.

I have experience working with people of faith who have gone through divorce or blended family issues.

I would say I am LGBTQ friendly, but would never pass myself on as an expert, much of my experience in this area with adults has been as a trusted friend or family member. My professional experience has been with kids and young adults.

My practice tends to lean toward solution focused therapy. Where are you, and where would you like to be? What changes needed to be made to get there? What will it look like when we get there so we know we arrived? I enjoy helping clients identify their needs, goals and their strengths to help reach those goals.

Written on Feb 25, 2023 after therapy with Jennifer for 1 year and 2 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, grief, coping with life changes, and coaching

Jennifer helped me work the emotional mess left after I cut off my verbally abusive mother and brother. She validated my experience when my previous therapist kept on pushing the idea that I could maintain these people in my life even when they made me miserable. Jennifer genuinely cares about me reaching emotional stability and happiness on my terms.
