My name is Jeremy and I call Kentucky my home and have since I was about 8 years old and moved here from West Virginia. I have spent most of my life in the Appalachian region, with a short-work tenure in Philadelphia and 10 years of serving in the military around the world. I love living in the mountains and find being outdoors is where I find most joy.
I am a life-long student, I have earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Military Science from Morehead State University, Master of Social Work from the University of Kentucky, Master of Business Administration from Ohio University and two years of seminary training at Liberty University Baptist Theological Seminary.
Past and current practice experience includes:
National Leadership Council for a federal government agency's Professional Standards and Clinical Practice board.
Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work.
Kentucky Board of Social Work Clinical Supervisor
Supervisory Social Worker for the U.S. government's Dept of VA
Healthcare Ethics Consultant
8 years of clinical work with the federal government, providing care for military veterans and their families.
1 year working for a local university mental health clinic treating students for various matters.
10 years of military service (US Army paratrooper).
My areas of specialized practice experience include: marriage and family therapy, family issues/discord, family changes, parenting difficulties, adjustment to college, time-management skills, depression, anxiety, stress management, adjustment, trauma (sexual, accident and combat), coaching/motivation/self-esteem, sleep issues, and substance-abuse.
I like to utilize a cognitive-behavioral approach to therapy, as well as acceptance work, for more general mental health concerns. For marriage/family concerns, a behavioral family therapy model, or behavioral couple therapy is best... I'm also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Conjoint Therapy for PTSD (couples trauma treatment). I very much respect the work of Dr. John Gottman and utilize his methods with couples as well. Concerning sleep the methods I like to use involve Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, which can be utilized for minor, or significant sleep disturbances.

He is amazing! He listens and finds ways to help you cope with what you are going through and talks to you like he is with you on this journey.
Great and responsive counselor that I felt a personal connection with from day one.
I’ve been seeing Jeremy for a couple of weeks and while I wouldn’t say he has the magical cure he definitely has given me ways to cope with things in a healthy way. I am super grateful for the time he puts into helping me through things with a compassionate approach.
Great person, attentive and understands trauma.
Mr Bowen has been very kind and patient with me and helps seek out my best form of learning and caters to that.
Jeremy is a fantastic counselor! He really helps identify the root of the problem and helps you face it head on. He also tries to connect with you and a personal level to better understand how to help. 10/10 recommend.
Jeremy is amazing! I wasn’t in a good head space when I first started talking to him. He gave a lot good material for me to read and exercises, and is always super support of me. I look forward to our talks even if it’s just to talk about my progress.
Thus far I have very much enjoyed my council from Jeremy Bowen. He asks very good questions and I feel I am heard.
Jeremy has been great and very helpful! I enjoy our talks and it has helped a lot! Very encouraging!
