Good day to you. If we were meeting in person, I’d say you can just call me by my nickname “Lou,” from my middle name, Louise. I received my bachelor's degree in Psychology from Northern Arizona University and my Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have experience with inpatient psychiatric clients, case management for federal inmates, and as a counselor in community-based non-intensive outpatient clinics. My passion for counseling was born from my own experiences and those of my family. I was raised by two US Marines so I’ve lived all over; including Europe. I spent eight years working in veterinary medicine, and worked with my animal patients, but also their caretakers. No other environment has taught me more about empathy, the power of nonverbal communication, and how precious life is, even at its end.
My approach to counseling is based in existentialism and the belief that purpose and meaning lead to a person’s most fulfilling life. I especially enjoy helping individuals who struggle with self-limiting beliefs, persistent severe mental illness, and history of trauma find healing, as well as practical methods to cope with stressors and build a purposeful and satisfying life. I’m particularly driven to help clients who suffer from chronic self-destructive behaviors such as self-harm and suicidal ideations.
