Hello. I am Dr. Jillian Graves, a licensed clinical social worker (LMSW), in the state of Michigan. I have experience working with adults, adolescents and families in both group and individual sessions. I have the most experiencing working with anger management, trauma, anxiety, parenting issues, mood disorders and workplace issues. I earned my MSW at Smith College and then went on to earn a Ph.D. in social work at Bryn Mawr, where my dissertation work focused on emerging adult (18-29-year-old) siblings of people with schizophrenia.
As you might guess, working with siblings of people with mental illness and adolescent and young adult development are specialties of mine as well. I believe that the most important work in therapy is the relationship. Establishing trust and solid communication is important and with that in mind, therapy is a collaborative process where I am here to help you set goals, provide support and offer insight. I have an eclectic approach to therapy, using approaches such as psychodynamic theory (including attachment theory), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, solution-focused treatment and narrative approaches. Making meaning, improving communication and understanding the ways that our personal histories shape us are important areas to focus on in therapy as well. Beginning therapy is difficult but I will be here to work with you every step of the way and if you have additional questions for me, please do not hesitate to ask. I look forward to working with you.
- Stress, Anxiety
- Family conflicts
- Trauma and abuse
- Anger management
I also have experience in Addictions, Grief, Parenting issues, Self esteem, Career difficulties, Bipolar disorder, Depression

Graves is intelligent, tactful, kind, and most importantly, a good listener. Speaking with her was extremely comforting, as her expertise made her able to articulate my specific worries when words or sense failed me.
Dr. Graves goes above and beyond to help and is thorough in her knowledge. She's given me a lot of insight that's invaluable to me. Very considerate and professional.
Dr Gaves has approached our therapy sessions in a way that I’ve always been looking for in therapy, but could never quite vocalize. She approaches the situation with empathy, but also offers real, practical, well articulated advice; always putting an active effort into making sure she and I both understand the situation and are on the same page. She’s provided me with real tools and action plans to not just better understand what I’m feeling/why I’m feeling that way, but also to be better equipped in HOW to approach the situation, and what to do about it moving forward.
Honestly I don’t know if I just got really lucky or if all the councillors in better help are this good, but our therapy sessions together have legitimately made such a huge difference in my life already. In just a few weeks, I’ve gotten more out of my therapy sessions with her than I have in 6 years with my original therapist. Thank you so much for all of your help!
Dr. Graves is a guiding light in a dark time in my life. I have tried counseling various time over the last few years and this is the first time I have managed to ‘connect’ with someone. She doesn’t rush you, she patient and her advise is sympathetic and constructive. I was in such a desperate state when I started with Dr Graves, I was suffering anxiety attacks in the middle of the night, I had physical signs of anxiety, I was so overwhelmed and just could get things straight in my mind. I was suffering with work stress and grief. I am currently I’m in a position where my thoughts are becoming clearer and I am able to talk about my issues. I’m still a way off but I’m beginning to see the light.
Dr Graves is brilliant! Supportive, affirmative and a wonderful communicator- she truly helped me work through a serious issue in my life. I can’t thank you, enough Dr Graves!!!
Dr. Graves has helped me immensely in crafting the narratives which are at the base of many of my anxieties, and how these are grounded in my particular trauma history. She is truly a therapist I feel comfortable delving into extremely difficult subjects and greatly value her feedback and inputs.
I feel very good talking to her, funny and understanding
Dr Graves has done more for me in a few sessions than years and years of therapy have done previously. I was skeptical at first, as is human nature to be with something new, but she picked up on my problem at once, and I cannot emphasize enough how much she has helped me. As a person whose opinions & wishes had been invalidated for many years, I came to Dr Graves broken and at the end of my rope. I understood many things about myself, and things just fell into place - all thanks to Dr Graves' openness and understanding. She is present, she is genuine, and I am just so grateful that we were matched. I highly recommend her!
Dr. Graves answers my questions and gives me practical things to do in assisting to solve my issues.
I was completely unsure about online counselling but Dr.Graves put me at ease. Her approach being focused on the therapeutic relationship eased me into being open and able to communicate. Her response; immediate, compassionate, empathy, trustworthy but also straight and honest! Thank you for always being there when I needed it, you are an amazing therapist!
Dr. Graves is very professional. She listens well and has clear approaches which are science-based. Before I started my sessions with Dr. Graves I was anxious and confused about intrusive thoughts. She helped me open my eyes to see things in clear perspective.
