About me

My style and beliefs are to create a safe environment within which individuals, couples, and families can explore their issues and challenges.

I do this using brief solution focused therapy embedded in a narrative view. This means that I assist people in seeing their lives in more healthy
ways as they overcome the challenges in their lives. This occurs in an atmosphere of empowerment and growth.

My preferred methods of doing therapy is to go on a journey with my clients to learn about their problematic "stuck points" and to assist them in
moving forward.

On this journey, empowerment and growth are two key factors that we strive to achieve.

I have studied psychology, sex therapy, and marriage and family therapy for many years, collecting a Doctorate and 3 Masters Degrees along
the way. In addition, I did many years of post graduate work.

My most substantive learning though comes from my many years of working with clients.

An experienced therapist makes all the difference.

She is the best marriage therapist I have ever had and only wish I would have known about her earlier. She doesn’t only just listen, she provides real skills that you can use to navigate and have a better marriage. Most importantly so you can understand yourself better because that is where it all begins. Thank you so much!

Dr. Atwood combines very helpful, practical advice with a calm and reassuring demeanor. She really helped me develop habits to manage my anxiety when it spikes in the moment, and also worked through more long term issues with me. I’d highly recommend her.
