About me
I am a mental health therapist currently holding an LPC and LSW in the state of Pennsylvania with over 30 years of experience working in various inpatient and outpatient settings. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, PTSD, childhood trauma, career challenges, substance abuse issues, and grief and loss. I also helped many people who have experienced physical trauma or emotional abuse.
My therapy style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic and rational-emotive therapy. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
I believe that it takes courage to seek help and then take the first tentative steps towards change. If you are ready to tell your story, I am here to listen and support you in your journey towards a new life. To prospective clients, In the spirit of mutual respect I ask you to take a moment before you decide to change therapists without any notice and provide me with some feedback. I understand that the online platform is anonymous and that it seems quite different than face to face counseling. However, you need to consider that just as in real face to face human interaction a certain degree of kindness and thoughtful manners goes very far in a rather cold and callous world. Just as you come to me for understanding, guidance and an ear to listen you need to give the same if there is something that concerns you about my counseling style. In this manner we can both grow as individuals and I can learn from you as you from me.
I look forward to working with you!

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Joann Crants. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
She has been very helpful with getting me to understand myself better
Joann is a wonderful therapist! She has helped me navigate some really tough grief and supported me with other mental health concerns as well. She listens well, she’s warm and empathetic, she challenges my beliefs in a gentle way. I highly recommend her as a therapist.
Joann is fantastic. She listens and is open and understanding. I feel compfortable with her and I would highly recommend her to anyone who needs to talk to someone.
great!
Joann is so kind and understanding. I am still continuing my journey with her and it’s been helpful. She gives valid advice and truly listens. I know I’m on the path to healing after living in a home with 10 years of abuse.
Dr. Crants is honestly amazing, she’s very personable and is very blunt which I prefer. I love how she tells me her thoughts on the situation and challenges my way of thinking when I need it.
Joann had helped me through a lot of issues that I’ve had and let me understand how to go forward with these issues. She’s a excellent listener and the amount of knowledge she has is great!
Joann seems to be very experienced and her availability seems to be vast however she doesnt check some of the boxes for what I am looking for in a therapist.
Joann is an excellent therapist. She is full of empathy and compassion. She can pick you up when you're feeling really low but also can help you look at the hard truths in your life that may be holding you back. I am grateful for our sessions. Joann, thank you for listening.
I have been with Dr. Crants for a couple months now. We have weekly sessions. I sincerely anticipate them! I have been through therapy on an off throughout my life and never truly found it beneficial until now. One part due to not being ready, the second part being that I didn’t have Joann as my person! She is so genuine, and real, her understanding of how I feel is like she sees right through my soul. She makes me feel understood. I cannot express enough to my coworkers, family, etc. that every time we complete a session, I feel weight off my chest. She is truly amazing! I sincerely appreciate her. She is super witty, and absolutely HILARIOUS! She can make you crack up at the end of the session when you cried the whole entire time.
I cannot stress enough how thankful I truly am for her! Thank you Dr. Crants!!!
Fantastic
Joann Crants is very good at understanding your problems and gives very helpful tips and strategies to improve my mental state
Joann is very kind and considerate and has a lot of good insights. I highly recommend her!
I think Joann believes in what she’s doing, for legal advice that’s irrelevant, but for this it’s crucial. I was a bit wary of the motivations for the professionals on this site but Joann is sincere and has an aura of the wisdom of a lengthy history. maybe the best review is that I’m writing a review.
She's very personable and funny! Her jokes make me feel comfortable and relaxed to share with her things I don't like telling people at all. She's very supportive and her advice is not biased. She challenges me and offers worksheets to help me read about things that can also assist outside of our sessions.
Joann was the first therapist to give me actual answers to my questions & the unknowns. She is extremely knowledgeable and confident in that! She is very attentive & constantly engaging with me during our sessions it never feels awkward or paused. She is the best !!
She shares her experience to show she can relate to situations that I am going through.
I'm greatly appreciate having a therapist that can guide me through these tough times.
Thank you.
Great investment for your mental health only wish you were able to use your insurance
I like Joann.
I think she brings perspective from life and her work experience that is helpful and connects personally.
She fun and a good listener.
I've only met with Joann a few times, but she has truly been a great help already. She gets me and is very respectful of what I communicate to her. She shares resources and I feel as if I have a plan of action after our sessions. Thank you, Joann
Great!
Didn't listen to my words. Took her opinion of what I said and stated I was refusing to try.
Excellent! :)
Joann has been a rock through my life’s greatest storm. She listens without judgement, she referred me to resources that I have found helpful, she remembers my story and helps me draw back on past sessions, situations and feelings, she helps me to feel empowered in my situation and compassionately supported. She’s down to earth, easy to talk to, and affirming. She’s drawn my attention to difficult things to consider and I’ve appreciated how that’s helped me to grow. I will always feel grateful that we connected when I absolutely needed her the most.
Completely helpful
Has been very helpful. Look forward to our sessions.
Joann is a great listener, very empathetic and understanding. She is able to relate well and off ideas on how to move through difficult situations. I would recommend her to anyone that is dealing with difficult life events that they are trying to navigate.
I really feel comfortable with Joann. She has a calming, nurturing approach. I feel like I am talking to my aunt. Her expertise is so natural that it doesn't seem like she is working when I am speaking with her. She's really awesome!!
Joann is truly great, she understands my concerns and takes the time to address them. She also remembered something from a previous session and brought it up to talk about it with me again. She listens very well and takes an interest in my fears/concerns. Highly recommend!
I’ve only met with Joann a couple of times. But she’s great. I really like her.
Joann appears to be a copayment analyst.
Joann is an active listener and responds thoughtfully after I meander to my eventual points. She cares and seems to have a nice set of possible activities available to help with various issues. I plan to stay with her if I decide to spend the money for another 4 weeks.
