About Me

Hi! My name is Joanne and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. The most common question I get is "Why did you decide to become a counselor?" To be honest, my joy is to be able to help and support people through their difficult times. I understand that everyone has their own story and their own battle that they are facing so my goal is to be an attentive and helpful listening ear.
I graduated from UC San Diego with a B.A. in Psychology and completed my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy at Cal Poly Pomona. I have worked with a variety of ages ranging from young children to older adults in their late 70's. My counseling style is collaborative and solution focused. I love to see my clients reach their goals!
At the same time, I love to use humor in my work with my clients and my hope is that my clients feel safe and understood. I believe that the client-therapist relationship can be healing in itself. There is no room for shame or judgment in our work together.
While I use a variety of techniques and interventions with my clients, I like to tailor treatment to what each individual needs. I am always curious so I like to ask questions and get to know my clients as best as I can so that I can get a fuller picture of what they are going through. I work from a strengths based approach so when I meet my clients I'm not looking to point out all of the "flaws" or "blemishes." I am looking to call out the strength and resilience that exists in each one of them.
I have worked with a variety of issues such as depression, family conflict, relationship conflict, anxiety/stress, trauma, and more. I am excited to work with you and look forward to helping you have greater insight into the things that hold you back but providing tools and hope for a better future.

I thought she was very professional and friendly. Didn't get too deep into it because I didn't quite need it, but she was helpful.

Joanne is great! She's helped me identify things I wasn't aware of and had helped me find solutions.

Joanne has been an amazing counselor. She's understanding, intelligent, and knows how to relate. I also appreciate how responsive she is, and when she responds, she addresses your concerns, as opposed to canned or scripted replies. You feel like you're engaged with another human. I also like that I can open up and talk to her about anything without feeling ashamed or embarrassed. While this should ideally be the case in any therapy, it may not always be. But, it is with Joanne, which is wonderful.

Joanne is terrific! She's really great about hearing the whole story and getting to the root of the problem and offering realistic methods of improvement.
