About Me

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (New York and Hawaii) and a National Board Certified Counselor. My clinical experience includes both inpatient and outpatient capacities in all age ranges though I have specialized in severe mental illness and child/adolescent psychology.

My counseling style encompasses an integrative approach that is person-centered and strength-based with specialization in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Christian Counseling. As a bilingual (Mandarin Chinese and English) first generation American citizen to immigrant parents, I am able to empathize with the difficulties of navigating between different cultural expectations and finding personal identity as a hyphenated American. I am also a military spouse and am familiar with the unique issues facing military families.

With regards to my communication style, I am straightforward and transparent yet empathetic and compassionate in supporting and empowering clients to reach their full potential and becoming confident decision-makers. I look forward to taking this journey of change with you!

I adore Joanne! She is so easy to talk to and I feel so safe with her. She is never judgemental and she has so much compassion. I've only been with her for 3 or 4 months but she has honestly changed my life.
I started counselling with the desire to have someone "fix" me and all my perceived shortcomings. Joanne made it clear early on that she would do no such thing. Instead, she taught me how to look at life from a new perspective. She guided me to question myself as to why I think the way I do, and how to change my cognition to achieve a more positive mindset, and so much more. I can't list all the things she's helped me do. I will always be thankful to her. <3

Joanne is very personable, making it easy for me to be completely open about what I’m going through. She’s a compassionate and attentive listener, and checks in on me regularly when I don’t message her. She specializes in many types of therapy that I feel I need in a counselor. I love the way she uses visual tools to help me identify my feelings and create balance in different areas of my life.

She's really understanding and really open. She's very helpful in guiding me through my emotions and pushing me in a slow, reasonable manner. She's very thorough and super nice. Definitely recommend!

Joanne is a great counselor. It feels like during my sessions I’m talking to a good friend with no judgment just guidance. I’m able to express myself and get insightful feedback, with progressive ways to move forward.
