About me

Thank you for connecting with me. It is great that you have taken this first step toward a counseling relationship. My name is John Douglass. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with the state of Alabama. I have been in practice for 20 years. I have worked with adolescents, young adults, families and couples at various stages and experiences in life. I have found that therapy can be most helpful when it is owned by the client.
I believe that the client is the center of the therapeutic relationship. That is why I am client directed in my approach to therapy. I can help clear out some of stuff for you to see more clearly what it may be you want to work on. Emotions can cause us to behave in ways that we do not like. I help clients identify and articulate what these emotions may be and the behaviors they are exhibiting. This then can give the client the power to change.
I graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts. I then graduated with a Master of Arts in Agency Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I did a 2 year residency in Pastoral Marriage and Family Therapy working with premarital couples, married couples, and families. I also have experience working with LGBTQ individuals. My most recent training has been in the areas of Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma informed Care, and Training for Adoptions Competency.
If you are wanting to explore more about how we can work together to promote growth and change I would welcome that opportunity.
