Welcome to Betterhelp. My name is John P. Koffman. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Wyoming I earned my Masters In Counseling Psychology from Northwest Missouri State University and my Education Specialist Degree in Counseling Psychology, with a marriage and family emphasis, from the University of Missouri. I have been practicing for 30 years as a generalist in a Community Mental Health setting, providing individual, family and couples counseling in Community-Based, Agency-Based and School-Based services in Casper Wyoming. I have conducted managerial and supervisory services for a Therapeutic Family Care Program and was a laison with the Department of Family Services and other state agencies. Additionally, I worked in an institution for the developmentally disabled, developing treatment plans and providing staff training. In all of those years I have gained experience working with a vast array of mental, interpersonal, emotional and behavioral health issues, primarily with adolescents and adults. Prior to obtaining my counseling degrees, I taught high school psychology and history classes and was a coach in a variety of sports.
It is my belief, and my experience supports, that a strong client/therapist relationship is absolutely essential. My approach to treatment varies, depending on the issues that a client comes in with. This may include Client-Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy and Solution-.Focused Therapy. Of all of the clients I have worked with, teenagers have been a challenge and the ones I seem to have a passion for. Much of my experience has focused on depression, anxiety and grief and loss. I can also provide Faith-Based Therapy if that meets the clients needs. I am a strong advocate for the utilization of exercise and eating well and can provide psychoeducation in this area.
I have a passion for working with people to help them obtain success in living their lives to the fullest. I fully understand that being attached to the right therapist is essential and that it may take time to find that right fit. I have been told that I am easy to connect with and it is my hope that I can be of service to you.

John Kaufman was an exceptional therapist. He was compassionate and understanding when needed. Was deeply thoughtful when asking me questions of a sensitive nature. He also gently challenged me exactly when I needed it (when I didn’t realize it was the key to enlightenment about certain situations). As a female I was surprised when I was matched with a male therapist. I’m so glad I stuck with better helps recommendation. He is a life changer!

John Koffman is super understanding and takes time out of his day to reach out to you to see how you are doing. He is so understanding and has experience with what he is saying. I highly recommend him to everyone I talk to.

I joined BetterHelp as kind of a last resort. I don't really like talking about my feelings and I'm extra skeptical about male therapists as I've had some issues with men in my past. But John has been the best therapist I've ever seen and far exceeded my expectations for what I would get out of therapy. He's kind, considerate, intelligent, and empathetic. He really truly does care deeply about his clients and wants to help you help yourself! I don't think I could've found a better therapist if I'd tried.

John was my 3rd therapist in a line of what were some really disappointing encounters. I was ready to quit trying, and then I paired with John. He’s taken an active role in my recovery and therapy. I was literally just raving to my partner about how well my session went, and how I’m glad I keep coming back. Cannot recommend his help enough, and I’m eager to continue the course.

I wasn't sure I would like John Koffman at first because I felt more confident in talking with a woman. But I'm glad I gave him a chance. I've only been talking with him for two weeks but I already feel improvement in myself. He is a very good listener and really makes me think about things that I normally don't. I look forward to our sessions and enjoy how anytime I share a journal entry with him, he is responsive and positive. He has helped me feel hopeful again. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who struggles with depression.
