Welcome to Betterhelp. My name is John P. Koffman. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Wyoming I earned my Masters In Counseling Psychology from Northwest Missouri State University and my Education Specialist Degree in Counseling Psychology, with a marriage and family emphasis, from the University of Missouri. I have been practicing for 30 years as a generalist in a Community Mental Health setting, providing individual, family and couples counseling in Community-Based, Agency-Based and School-Based services in Casper Wyoming. I have conducted managerial and supervisory services for a Therapeutic Family Care Program and was a laison with the Department of Family Services and other state agencies. Additionally, I worked in an institution for the developmentally disabled, developing treatment plans and providing staff training. In all of those years I have gained experience working with a vast array of mental, interpersonal, emotional and behavioral health issues, primarily with adolescents and adults. Prior to obtaining my counseling degrees, I taught high school psychology and history classes and was a coach in a variety of sports.
It is my belief, and my experience supports, that a strong client/therapist relationship is absolutely essential. My approach to treatment varies, depending on the issues that a client comes in with. This may include Client-Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy and Solution-.Focused Therapy. Of all of the clients I have worked with, teenagers have been a challenge and the ones I seem to have a passion for. Much of my experience has focused on depression, anxiety and grief and loss. I can also provide Faith-Based Therapy if that meets the clients needs. I am a strong advocate for the utilization of exercise and eating well and can provide psychoeducation in this area.
I have a passion for working with people to help them obtain success in living their lives to the fullest. I fully understand that being attached to the right therapist is essential and that it may take time to find that right fit. I have been told that I am easy to connect with and it is my hope that I can be of service to you.

A tremendous therapist
He is very straightforward and kind even in very stressful sessions. He has the balance of empathy and strength needed.
I have been with John since April of 2021.
John is a very kind and normal person who I find easy to talk and relate to. He’s helped me work through problems in my life and grow as a person. John is very professional and knowledgeable and has helped me work through some very heavy trauma. I’m glad I reached out.
Very helpful in digging deep into issues!!! Not afraid to approach the reality of situations!!!
He listens and provides helpful advice and resources that can be turned into everyday skills that are rational and practical and that’s refreshing. He’s extremely easy to connect with with a friendly personality.
John is an amazing, intuitive, experienced therapist. I am so glad I met him!
Been talking to John the past month and he is kind and knowledgeable. He interacts and shares his own experiences and listens to what you need to get out and provides feedback and different techniques on how to work on issues you might be having. He is thorough and wants to know about you and cares about you and because of this it shows how much he is passionate about his profession.
John Koffman is super understanding and takes time out of his day to reach out to you to see how you are doing. He is so understanding and has experience with what he is saying. I highly recommend him to everyone I talk to.
I joined BetterHelp as kind of a last resort. I don't really like talking about my feelings and I'm extra skeptical about male therapists as I've had some issues with men in my past. But John has been the best therapist I've ever seen and far exceeded my expectations for what I would get out of therapy. He's kind, considerate, intelligent, and empathetic. He really truly does care deeply about his clients and wants to help you help yourself! I don't think I could've found a better therapist if I'd tried.
Seems very knowledgeable, and is good with dealing with me as a very unsure patient who was unsure what getting help looked like.
John has been great to work with. He is knowledgeable with my area of concern, he listens and shows empathy to me along with valuable life lessons.
It is a good experience and it is helpful
John was my 3rd therapist in a line of what were some really disappointing encounters. I was ready to quit trying, and then I paired with John. He’s taken an active role in my recovery and therapy. I was literally just raving to my partner about how well my session went, and how I’m glad I keep coming back. Cannot recommend his help enough, and I’m eager to continue the course.
John , is very helpful in providing me with things that may help my situation, he is understanding of my situation, and is delightful to talk with.
Up front and no beating around the bush, if you're looking for clear answers or just someone to bounce your thoughts around with; look no further.
I wasn't sure I would like John Koffman at first because I felt more confident in talking with a woman. But I'm glad I gave him a chance. I've only been talking with him for two weeks but I already feel improvement in myself. He is a very good listener and really makes me think about things that I normally don't. I look forward to our sessions and enjoy how anytime I share a journal entry with him, he is responsive and positive. He has helped me feel hopeful again. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who struggles with depression.
