About me

Hello!

As a therapist, it’s my privilege and responsibility to guide individuals through the complex journey of effective and sustainable change.
It’s a responsibility I don’t take lightly.

A bit about my experience… I spent the first three years of my career working a traditional outpatient clinic. This work often involved treating individuals with underlying factors such as depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, co-dependencies, and trauma. I have spent the past several years working in Emergency Rooms. This challenging but rewarding work has allowed me to support people in a wide range of crises.

The number one predictive outcome for successful therapy is the relationship between client and provider. I’m happy to answer any questions regarding whether my experience can be used to best meet your needs.

99% of your time will be spent outside of therapy; this is an uncomfortable reality providers face. My approach is specifically tailored to restructuring perspective and developing tools to use in real life, where most of change will actually occur.

In my free time, I’m an avid reader and constantly searching for new ideas to help my clients. I respond quickly and encourage clients to reach out to me whenever problems arise because life happens between sessions.

Time is the most valuable resource we have; I look forward to working with you and making the most of yours!

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for John-Paul Carroll. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

I’ve been working with JP for a little under 5 months and he has changed my life. His approach is brash for some, but working with me was the highlight of my 2020.
Thanks so much to him and BetterHelp for everything. I am a much more stable human thanks to everything you all do, especially JP.

This is my first time with this platform for counseling. I love working with JP. He listens to me and validates my thoughts and emotions. I like the unconventional approach of not trying to apply a quick fix and helping me take responsibility for my mental health.

J-P is just the type of counselor I needed. He is to-the-point, goal-oriented, and shares his expertise in an understandable manner so that I can help myself in whatever ways I need it. J-P deeply understands that therapy is to teach and enable the individual to help theirself. As he's told me, "life happens outside of therapy". Therapy is to help us help ourselves in life, he believes and I definitely agree. I truly appreciate his friendly personality and his unwavering support.

J-P has been a great counselor. He is an amazing listener and breaks down things in ways I hadn't actually considered, which is of course quite useful. He always responds in a timely manner, and what's most important: his aim is to help you feel better, NOT "dig up your past for the sake of having something to talk about". He has been very supportive about my wanting to change and improve my outlook in life and its events, as well as has provided a number of great resources for me to use between sessions and "in real life". He has been very realistic about expectations and how we can meet them, and has a great personality. I am very glad I was matched with him. In just a few weeks I already feel like I've made progress, and look forward to continue improving.
