I am a marriage and family therapist licensed in California with over 7 years of experience. Whom do I serve? Clients who see me typically are those experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues, parenting problems, and career challenges. I’ve also worked with clients to help establish (or re-establish) healthy communication in relationships. In my practice, I have often worked with individual adults, but I have also helped a number of adolescents and couples, as well as mediated difficult conversations between family members and in primary romantic relationships.
How do I work with you? After we’ve built some trust, I might sit with you as you process deep emotions, staying where you are and offering some reflections. At other times, I will listen and offer insights, observations, and suggestions. No matter what alliance we create together (deep listener, mentor, coach, etc.), I will treat you with the utmost respect, move at the pace you need me to move, and stay behind you as you build confidence to make the changes you want.
My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, Jungian, and Gestalt approaches. However, these approaches are ultimately ways to look at the challenges a client is facing more than a prescriptive set of interventions. As we work together, I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
I look forward to working with you!

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for John Souchak. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
John is very empathetic and trustworthy . Truthful with sound guidance even when hard for me to hear or admit.
John is very patient and listens well. He’s excellent at holding space while I work through the things that are important to me. I trust his expertise and experience and fully recommend him to someone looking for kindness in a therapist.
John is the best and has helped our family so much!
I've been having sessions with John for a few months now. I feel that there has been significant progress and I have come to understand things about myself that I hadn't considered before. John listens very carefully and I feel that he genuinely cares which makes it easy to tell him anything that's on my mind. I'm very happy with the sessions and recommend him highly.
John is fantastic!! He's really good at helping me find focus in the ways I really want to improve, and delving into mindfulness and my emotions. I really appreciate all he's done for me so far, and I'm looking forward to continuing to work with him.
