About me

I believe finding the right therapist is like finding a pair of shoes that fit just right. It can be a hard process; you may have to try a number of options and drive to a number of stores before you find the right fit. This process can be hard and often deters people from seeking counseling. I became a therapist because I’ve never found being a Human especially easy, and I’ve had a lot of adverse life experiences. For some people, being happy comes naturally. For others it takes a lot of work to find it (just like that pair of shoes). I believe we learn best from those of us who have had to learn to endure, persevere, and even find meaning from pain.

I am licensed to practice psychotherapy as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Oregon where I have gained the skills to help adults address trauma (PTSD), relationship difficulties with family or romantic partners, and problematic sexual behaviors. I am interested in helping people make lasting changes to bring true empowerment and life transformation.

My style is conversational, and I use a combination of several therapeutic orientations including Solutions Focused, Strengths Based, Mindfulness, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and address the unhelpful thought and behavioral patters that are at the heart of their struggles.

We all have things in life that we need help working through, and that sometimes our emotions seem to be steering the ship, with us simply along for the ride. I provide a safe, non-judgmental, confidential space for you to get the support and guidance you are seeking. I appreciate the uniqueness of each individual and strongly believe that building a trusting therapeutic relationship is key to helping you reach your personal goals of healing and change.

If you are ready to improve your well-being, no matter how chronic, embarrassing, or hopeless your challenges may feel, I am excited to provide you compassion, relief, and empowerment. I do this work because I truly believe everyone deserves to feel whole and capable of achieving their own goals, whatever those may be.

John makes me feel heard and understood. When I tell him what’s going on he really listens to me and I feel like he really wants to help. His insight has changed my perspective in a positive way on some very difficult subjects. Since I have been working with him my anxiety has gone down greatly and I feel much less alone. It’s nice to feel like someone really believes and understands what you are telling them.

I am thankful to have John as my counselor! He has helped me build the necessary tools I’ve needed to help with emotional regulation, such as being able to be more in the moment and techniques that help me from getting to a point where I might have a panic attack. As well as ways of better communicating with my partner.

I can't thank John enough for how much he helped. He did a fantastic job not only helping me overcome issues in the short term, but provided me with the perspectives, information, and methods to handle longer term issues. He has a keen eye for connecting things that may not seem related up front, but may be compounding on each other.

John is an incredible caring and helpful man who works incredibly hard to look at any situation that arises through a compassionate and supportive lense, while still being willing to point out when you are trying to shield your problems and hinder your own recovery. He also is very good at identifying harmful tendencies and relationships and at giving advice to address the problem in as complete a way as possible.
