About Me

Hi, I am John Walter. I am based in Cornwall, UK. I am qualified as a Therapeutic Counsellor and a member of the BACP. I have worked therapeutically in education and fostering services since 1985.
I am experienced with victims of domestic abuse and young people navigating the first years of independent living. As a bereaved father I have been drawn to working with recently bereaved people.
I have worked with businesses and organisations on developing teamwork skills and building community.

My commitment is to work with you as an individual. I will not diagnose you, categorise you or try to fix you. I will not give you medication, judgement, or advice on living your life.

I will meet with you regularly for as many sessions as you feel you need. I will listen to anything you want to share with me. Speaking something out loud to someone who accepts you unconditionally can be a significant step in healing. I will be warm and genuine with you.
I share my own struggles elsewhere on my website as a writer. You are welcome to read those and ask me anything about my life you feel may help you in yours. My intention is to collaborate with you in sorting through things that you find difficult or distressing and the things that give you joy.

John has helped me focus on the challenges I have and worked through how I think about them. This has supported me to understand them and myself better, which is at least a starting point for me in a journey of grief.

So far my experience with John has been pleasant. We've only began to scratch the surface, but it's bene very beneficial so far. He's kind, compassionate and just listens.

John has been incredibly supportive at addressing my concerns. Our sessions have felt conversations with an old friend and we have put in a time frame for my life goal. I am very grateful.
