About me

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I help people to identify their goals, overcome obstacles, meet challenges, and thrive. I take an active and engaged role with my clients by asking questions, offering alternative perspectives, and suggesting new ways of thinking about issues that may be getting in the way of living a more satisfying life. I have 6 years working with people dealing with depression anxiety, self-esteem, trauma, PTSD, and relationship experiences. I have served on Active Duty in the Air Force and enjoy working with military members and their family. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults, transgender, and LGBT community. I utilize individual, family, and couples counseling as appropriate. I customize my treatment to meet the needs and goals of the individual and/or family dynamic.

My treatment approach is client centered. My belief is that all clients are unique and therefore, I work towards making all my clients feel comfortable and understood. I am very warm and caring and find that building a trusting relationship between client and counselor is truly the foundation of a successful counseling relationship. I am trained in in psychodynamic, solution focused therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. Because no two clients are alike, I work to form a treatment plan in coordination with the client so that we can have the most successful counseling relationship possible.

Congratulations on taking the first step in a therapeutic relationship. It takes courage to take the first step and seek counseling. I look forward to beginning a rewarding therapeutic relationship with my clients.

Joseph Barry is a great listener, but more importantly, he asks questions that make me think. He’s attentive to my specific concerns, and he’s also personable and fun. I enjoy that he offers challenges for the week ahead. I like overcoming challenges, personally. So that works very well for me.
