About me

I would like to start out this introduction by sharing why I am so passionate about counseling and how my own story led me to where I am today. In 2008, I was a helicopter pilot in the army, but after a combat deployment, which led to a devastating divorce and years of readjustment difficulties, my focus in life changed. During these deeply personal experiences, I became aware of the hurt and the brokenness of others and have a desire to help others to overcome - as I did.

Since then, I graduated with a master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy as well as a master’s in Divinity. And over the last 7 years, I have served as a counselor for veterans and their family members in the Veteran’s Administration. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including marriage & family, PTSD, shame, anger regulation, anxiety, depression, grief, addictions, and spiritual issues.

As a Trauma informed therapist, it is a sacred moment when a client invites me to join them as they process their past trauma(s). There is healing, whether the trauma is from combat, sexual assault, first respond or traffic accident. I have found personally and professionally, that Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is the most helpful therapeutic approach for trauma.

As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, I am passionate about helping couples find reconciliation and helping overcome an array of different struggles. The approach I like to use with couples & family is Emotional Focus Therapy (EFT) and Attachment Theory.

As a Christian, I believe we are created with a physical body, a soul and a spirit which are all integrated with each other. So when welcomed, I love to provide a faith based prospective to my counseling and enjoy sharing how the love of Christ in conjunction with therapy can bring about transformational change in one’s life.

I look forward to working with you.

Joe is so patient and so kind. I hope everyone can experience him or some one like him. Great listener!

I was a little nervous to reach out and start the process of counseling, but after one session with Joe I was positive I did the right thing.
Not only is Joe respectful and listens, I really appreciate the Biblical advice woven into our sessions. I’ve already recommended some friends to take that first step because I know how beneficial it is.
