Joshua Beavers

About Me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Oklahoma, and I have been working in the field since 2015. I obtained a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Central Oklahoma in May 2015. I have worked with clients with a range of concerns including anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and family conflict. My approach blends techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapy and solution-focused therapy, and I am always researching new evidence-based techniques. I use a collaborative problem-solving approach to help my clients organize their concerns and brainstorm solutions. Also, I love recommending books to help people cope with the stress in their lives. I look forward to hearing some of your book recommendations as well!

I understand how difficult it is to seek help, and I'm proud of you for taking this big step. Well done!

I look forward to working with you!

Joshua is really good at asking what YOU want to talk about each session & not just assuming he knows. I started talking about anxiety, but then in a different session threw him a complete curveball of talking about motivation & weight loss - he was able to quickly adjust and was great! He really knows his stuff!

Joshua is a very helpful and insightful counselor. He listens to questions and problems and offers his advice on how to fix them. He is always kind and respectful and offers links to different resources or topics if you want to dive in deeper after the session. I am really benefiting from BetterHelp and from Joshua.

I like the way Mr. Beavers does his therapy. It's very open, but he also makes me think about important questions with no pressure. He helps me feel heard when I realize things about myself and he helps me come to terms with those things too.

From the first session, Mr. Beaver has been easy to speak with and digs deep to get you thinking about the "whys" that plague our actions and thoughts. He provokes vulnerable conversations in a respectful way and appropriately brings back conversations for clarity and to look at them from different perspectives. He is calming, makes great eye contact, takes great notes, and solicits deep and vulnerable conversations.

Josh is an excellent counselor who strikes a perfect balance between being human and remaining professional. He helped me work through several complex issues in my marriage, and also helped me work through my grief and loss involving a close friend. He is well-researched, responsive, and truly cares for his clients. I highly recommend him.

This is, by far, the best counselor I have had! I have had many, but Joshua is the best. I’m continually amazed how engaged he is in our conversations and seems to really “get me,” and I’m not an easy person to get to know. I like how he offers sound advice and practical actions that can be taken. He really seems to meet you where you are in life and help you improve from there. Been seeing him for a brief time but has already made huge improvements in my life. Definitely recommend!!

Joshua has been great so far. I'm not a fan of counseling normally, but I can't deny the benefits of my sessions with him. I am genuinely feeling like a new person

Written by D.R. on Oct 07, 2018 after counseling with Joshua for 2 weeks on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, self esteem, and career difficulties

Out of the diverse handful of therapists I've had sessions with, Joshua is the only counselor I've ever had who finds an effective balance between the extremes of "helpful, knowledgeable professional" and "just a person like me."

He is timely and well-worded with thoughtful responses, none of which have ever seemed mindlessly repetitious, irrelevant, or patronizing; The polar opposite of my past experiences in therapy in the best way possible.

Despite his fantastic use of the messaging features offered at BetterHelp, I still suggest you opt for phone and/or video call sessions, as you will cover much more ground this way. Even if you normally have anxiety or social aversion surrounding these features as I do personally, I still highly recommend you at least give them a try. Not once in our conversation did Joshua's responses give me the impression I was being judged or scrutinized harshly, so I didn't feel the same tension I associated with face-to-face counseling. He does a remarkable job of making you feel at home.

In short, I couldn't have hoped for a better first experience with BetterHelp.
