Welcome, I am Irene Freeman, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Missouri.
In a life of challenging experiences reaching out for support can be difficult. Finding the right professional "fit" is important for fostering trust and personal growth. I emphasize the perspective of non-judgmental acceptance. My counseling style is deeply interactive and focused on the dynamics of personal experience, relationships, thoughts, and the bodies we inhabit. Compassion for ourselves is the root of growth and is fostered by compassionate connections with others.
I earned a Master of Social Work degree from Missouri State University and have worked in the mental health field for 11 years. In that time I have been privileged to work with clients of all ages across a broad variety of needs. Depression, anxiety, interpersonal issues, stress, and trauma are of particular interest. Sessions often focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in a trauma-informed environment and integrate elements of EMDR, mindfulness, self-acceptance, and the dynamics of body/mind experiences.
Each therapeutic relationship is unique and defined by the people in it. Creating a new therapy suited to a client's experiences, needs, and goals is essential to building a strong and respectful connection.

My brain is a Non-Euclidian ever shifting maze. Irene can make sense of it and simplify what's important

I'm really able to engage with therapy for the first time in my life and a big part of why is Irene's accepting style. I'm so grateful BetterHelp matched us. Thank you so much.

Irene has been a gift from the universe. She has such a compassionate and smart understanding of the world. I tend to be skeptical of therapy as it has been my experience that it has an overfocus on the individual, but Irene understands and phrases her advice within a systematic perspective. Talking with her is one of the highlights of my week. There has not been a single time where I didn't learn something about myself or society after our sessions. Also, who takes the time to write such caring collective messages every weekend? (Spoiler: She does)

Josh is by far the best counselor that I have encountered either as a client or those who I have worked with in an academic setting. He listens both critically and empathetically while asking the right questions that are applied to the situation. So many counselors provide "broiler plate" questions, but Josh does not. He provides great feedback, direction and sometimes the reasoning and/or theories or models behind his advice. Give this gentleman a raise!

Josh has been great to work with. I had what I thought was an initial set of items to work on but it turns out life handed me some other things. Josh was accommodating and has been extremely understanding of jumping subjects as needed. He has offered different methods to work through stress and emotions and has really been an asset from our first call. Much appreciated and I’d highly recommend Josh.
