My name is Joshua, and I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) currently working in the state of Maryland with 7 years of experience working with individuals in areas of case management, psychotherapy, mental health treatment, hospital discharge planning, and supportive care for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. I am licensed in both the state of Oklahoma and the state of California, which is where I first became licensed. I have worked with individuals across a broad spectrum of mental health and life concerns such as depression, anxiety, mania, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, relationship difficulties, career challenges, and motivational difficulties. Included in the previous were individuals who have experienced lifelong trauma, abuse, and other adverse events that led them to working with me.
My therapeutic/counseling style is cooperative and client-driven. I want to make sure that all our sessions, messages, and interactions are as positive and cooperative as possible, working toward achieving your desired goal(s). I treat all people with dignity, respect, kindness, and openness while avoiding all judgment and stigmatization. I utilize cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral, and solution-focused approaches primarily with liberal use of psychoeducation as applicable. All of our work together will be specifically designed to meet your needs and whatever it is that you bring to the table in the moment.
I truly appreciate you reaching out for help. It takes courage and strength to take this first step, and it is my personal goal to help you see it through. If you feel this is the right time and place for you to make a change, I am here for you to assist in facilitating that, and I would love nothing more to be the guiding light through that process.
I look forward to being given the opportunity to work with you and to discover how to best assist you. Have a wonderful day!

I have been very pleased by the support I have received from Josh.
I have worked with Joshua for several months now and I never thought it was possible to look forward to a therapy session. But he makes it feel more like venting to a non-judgemental and a very neutral friend. Even when things are on his mind too. It does not feel like therapy and I don’t feel any immediate impact but I know that over time I am developing more resilience because I have someone safe to talk to.
Joshua has been such a great resource for me. It takes a very compassionate, knowledgeable, and professional person for me to feel comfortable enough to process my trauma and Joshua was that person for me. I would highly recommend him.
I’ve been working with Josh for a few months now and really appreciate his attention and insights. His consistency and dedication to the work is admirable and I am really happy with work with him and recommend him to anyone.
I enjoy that Joshua uses examples from his own life and isn’t concerned with being vulnerable. Great impression so far!
I have had two sessions with Joshua. Although I enjoy talking a lot, it is never easy admitting things about yourself are not good. Joshua helps me understand how I feel, and what I need to help myself.
I haven't been meeting with Josh for too long, but my experience thus far has been very positive. He is very supportive. He responds quickly and checks in frequently. He understood my needs and issues and doesn't seem to be judging me at all, which is refreshing. I hope things continue to go as well as they are!
Josh is a very good listener, and I look forward to our sessions.
I can’t begin to tell you how much Joshua has changed my life. He supports me every step of the way. I was in terrible shape when we first started. He was able to do something no otherTherapist had done in the past, he diagnosed me with PTSD and that was the missing piece. I learned through hard work how to finally started working through my many Traumas. I would highly recommend Joshua! I am 63 years old and I feel like a new person. I still have work to do but I am making progress. Thank you for creating this wonderful site.
Joshua and I haven’t been working together for long, but he has been awesome! I really appreciate his ability to listen and take it all in so that he can give great advice and guidance. I never feel judged, but quite comfortable. I can tell Joshua really loves to help people be who they want to be.
He’s a pretty good counselor. If you see this Joshua, this is Malcolm and I wasn’t able to renew my subscription this week I should be back soon
He has been so helpful during a very difficult time.
Kind, rational and nonjudgmental
Joshua always makes me feel like he hears what I’m saying it’s like if I’m talking to a friend I’m really thankful he’s my therapist.
Joshua is an engaging person to talk to and I feel like it is easy for me to open up to him, which is exactly what I was looking for in this service.
Joshua is very thorough and gets down to the real problems. He breaks it down to focus on certain issues small pieces at a time so it is not overwhelming and you can really process things through. He is great at keeping in touch, and checking in on you.
Josh has been a great counselor. He's communicative, consistent, remembers the little things, and makes you feel understood. He also offers great advice and is open about his own life and navigating the virtual platform.
Josh is awesome. Stays very present and listens extremely well. Has a lot of outside the box ideas that I really like.
Josh is clearly meant for big things and I’m lucky to have him as a counselor during a period of transition in my life considering I’m sure we’ll be seeing him in congress helping the country’s youth with mental health education before too long.
Joshua is great. Responds quickly. He tries to understand your problems and help you fix it.
From one clinician to another, I highly recommend!
Checks in every few days. Cares about me getting control of my anxiety. Is a great help.
I find myself lucky to have Joshua as my therapist. He is empathetic, patient and pays attention to his clients, makes them feel heard and always there to support in their lows (bad days) and cheers them for even the slightest highs (good days). Thank you Joshua for your constant support.
Josh was great. I really enjoyed our conversations. He really helped me with my time I spent with him. Thank you.
It’s been an excellent experience. I’ve already recommended to so many people :)
Great counselor overall. Highly recommend!
Joshua is a kind counselor. He gets back in a timely manner and is very good with helping you work through certain situations.
Josh is really empathetic and kind. Fun to talk to as well. He really works to suss out the issues plaguing you and find a path to help.
Joshua is a wonderful counselor. He offers a variety of ways to communicate, and always responds in a timely and thoughtful manner. He made me feel comfortable from the very beginning. I appreciate his insights and his willingness to find new ways to help.
He’s the only counselor I’ve ever talked to that genuinely seems to care. He doesn’t make me feel like a burden or that I’m crazy or tries to push me off to someone else because I’m “too much” (which has happened before and it felt awful). I’ve never had a therapist I could vent to about anything and give me the space to spill my guts whether it’s my mental issues, relationship issues, or if I’m just venting about stuff. He’s the best and I feel extremely lucky because I’ve never had such a positive experience like this before.
Joshua helping so many clients in such a timely caring manner has been awesome. My phone chats with him go over quite smoothly and he effectively listens and guides me. Really great therapist & person.
Joshua is highly educated about new ideas and approaches to daily life and problems that we encounter. He has been a great resource to reach out for help when needed!
Joshus Opatowsky is an expert in the human experience for better or worse, incredibly understanding even for experiences very different from his own, he has so much empathy and is very supportive, I cannot speak highly enough of Joshua's therapeutic advice.
Joshua is great! He is attentive, creates an emotionally warm space and is supportive and present on all fronts.
Josh is a sincere and helpful counselor. I would recommend him for sure.
Super easy to talk to and understanding!
Very kind, not so stiff as a professional would typically be. Makes me feel like I'm talking with a old friend rather then a stuffy psychologist. Also very willing to help and encouraging good behavior and outlets.
