About me

Hi, I'm Julia, and I'm passionate about helping folks overcome trauma and navigate challenging situations to find safety and purpose.

I've been working in the healing world for over a decade, and became licensed to provide mental health services as a social worker in 2012.

My practice involves working with others to find freedom from major life struggles - aka, getting "un-stuck". Stuck-ness can look like many things: depression, anxiety, guilt, shame, unstoppable thought-cycles, persistent negative beliefs, unwanted behaviors or habits, addiction, relationship troubles, even difficulty with focus or motivation. I believe firmly that everything we experience is happening for a reason - that we think or feel or do things because of something important. Sometimes the reason itself is clear - a specific circumstance or trauma. Sometimes, though, the "why" is evasive. No matter where you are in your awareness and process, I believe your mind and body and memories hold the keys to your freedom, and I am committed to helping you in your discovery and healing.

When you work with me, you'll have the space to speak your mind and feel your feelings. Some days we'll discuss the here-and-now, others we'll dive deep into the heart of the issue. No matter what, we'll always focus on what you say are your most important needs, and we'll always find a way to laugh, even just a little - after all, counseling should help you feel *better*!

I consider myself your listener, your sounding board, your cheerleader, your resource, and your advocate. As for my background...I draw primarily from client-centered modalities, including Narrative, Cultural Somatics, Relational-Cultural, Internal Family Systems, and Solution-Focused, and I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and mindfulness meditation. My approach is feminist and anti-oppressive, meaning I believe systems and structures impact our relationships to ourselves and to others, and I believe you are the expert on your own life. I weave the science of neurobiology and trauma with my strengths-based approach to therapy, following every client's needs and utilizing compassion to develop supportive and mutual relationships.

As a whole, I believe everyone has the knowledge and ability to overcome even the most disempowering problems, and my truly collaborative approach will open up space for safety, creativity, and hope.

It's so wonderful to finally have found a therapist who takes my concerns seriously!

Written on Jun 18, 2022 after therapy with Julia for 1 year and 6 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, trauma and abuse, sleeping disorders, self esteem, and coping with life changes

I first started therapy with Julia back in 2020 & I had already tried about 3 other therapists, but Julia was the one I felt was someone I could relate to and felt as if she could help me grow. I stopped therapy for awhile due to financial issues & came right back to BetterHelp just recently hoping I could get Julia back & I was able to! She welcomed be back with open arms & I can’t wait to start working with her again. She’s understanding, she listens & has such a great approach to therapy!!

Julia is phenomenal. She’s an excellent listener and has helped me weather some serious life changes. Not sure the state I’d be in without her guidance and words.

I was afraid to start therapy. Juila is amazing in just a few sessions she has given me confidence to open up and find my true self. I appreciate the way she pauses to think about what I say and finds a exercise that helps me in ways I would of never imagined. She makes me laugh and her gentleness is much appreciated.
