About me

Welcome! I am pleased that you are considering embarking on a journey of growth and self-exploration. I am especially glad that you have chosen to invite me along as a companion on the journey. I hold a Master's degree in Counseling/ Marriage and Family Therapy and have certification as a National Certified Counselor. In addition, I am a member of the Louisiana Counseling Association and hold memberships in two honor societies (Chi Sigma Iota, Pi Gamma Mu). I am licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor with the Louisiana LPC Board of Examiners. Furthermore, I am a trained Louisiana Divorce and Family Mediator and a Louisiana Civil, Commercial and Employment Mediator with extensive training through the Mediation Institute, approved by the Louisiana State Bar Association .

My background and education allow me to be especially effective in working with individuals who are struggling with a variety of life's challenges such as stress, anxiety, depression, career changes, transitions, relationship issues, separation/divorce, and parenting problems. My counseling style is warm, compassionate, and upbeat with touches of appropriate humor. I do believe that it can be healthy to see the humor in situations and that laughter can sometimes be one of the best medicines. My approach combines person centered from an existential perspective, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. I operate from a wellness model and integrate a systemic perspective into my work. This means that I will help you to identify your unique strengths, as well as explore the impact family, work, community, and social environments have on your life and how these systems may serve as obstacles or support for change and growth. It is my hope that as you find better ways to meet your needs for survival, love and belonging, power, freedom, and fun, you will experience a more fulfilling life.

Taking that first step in seeking counseling can seem scary but it also takes tremendous courage to do so. I'd love if you'd invite me along on this journey to walk with you in your struggles and assist you in a successful resolution of the problems that are deemed most important through the collaborative process of counseling. So, if you're ready for change in your life and you're willing to BE that change and work hard, work with me. And remember, even baby steps move you forward.

My decision to sign up with BetterHelp was a great one. I never expected to receive the guidance and instruction that I have. Julie is a great counselor. She asks me the tough questions that really make me take the time to reflect, without making me feel overwhelmed or pressured.

Julie is wonderful. She's kind and patient and also very empathetic and not judgmental. She helps me work on issues but also teaches me how to handle them on my own so that I'm not dependent on her.
