Hello and welcome! I am glad you are taking the first step on your journey to living a healthier happy life and am here to support you along the way!
I am passionate about promoting positive and healthy mental well-being and facilitating growth in others. One of my greatest joys in life derives from helping others to overcome challenges and, in doing so, empowering individuals to create a life they love.
I earned my Masters in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University of Santa Barbara in 2015. For the past four years, I have been offering mental health services in different capacities and gaining practical experience working with clients of different ages and backgrounds. As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I have had the opportunity to work in a number of capacities and to provide a variety of services, such as residential group home therapy, in-school counseling, counseling for clients at different non-profit organizations, and counseling in a private practice setting. I have extensive experience working with children and youth as well as working with adults in both individual and group therapy. My main area of expertise is to help individuals cope with trauma and abuse as well as with dealing with grief and loss. Additionally, I have experience in the areas of anger management, anxiety, depression, addiction, developmental disability, domestic violence, family conflict resolution, and I have worked with members of the LGBTQ community.
There is no single method of delivering therapy that works for everybody. Instead, I aim to create a unique form of therapy that is especially tailored with the needs and preferences of each individual in mind. While considering the unique needs of each individual, I find the tenants of positive psychology, mindfulness, and solution-focused therapy to be most effective in my work. Instead of focusing on the problem and orienting towards what isn’t working for you, I believe in drawing upon your strengths and the inner resources you already possess to find solutions for your struggles. Cognitive behavioral therapy is another form of therapeutic intervention that informs my work. The basic premise of cognitive behavioral therapy is to examine our beliefs and to gain a better understanding of how our beliefs and personal views shape our experience of the world and influence our actions. My approach is firmly grounded in the belief that each person is an expert and agent of their own life. No one knows you better than you, and I am simply here to help you navigate through the journey of healing and self discovery by creating a safe space within which you can explore and communicate your feelings and thought processes.
I thank you for taking the time to review my profile and sincerely hope that I will be able to assist you with whatever challenges have brought you here.

Justin has been a great help in my life. From helping me deal with alcohol issues to depression, anxiety, and relationship issues, he has been a great benefit to my life. He's helped me to see the light at the tunnel and create better routines and self care. He's attentive and takes good notes which he utilizes in subsequent sessions. I'm glad I've had the experience of working together with him.
I worked with Justin for a couple months to navigate a specific issue I was having.
He dove right in to help and created a goal and plan on how we could work together and made me feel at ease as I hesitated to work with a male counselor.
I appreciated the worksheets he assigned to keep me focused.
Justin is very attentive and was always prepared for our calls moving us forward in our work together. He’s empathetic, patient, a caring listener and is passionate about helping people. I was most impressed with him. And would recommend highly recommend him as your counselor/ therapist.
I only did counseling for a little over a month, and initially, I was skeptical, but Justin was amazing. He made me feel heard, and it felt like I was talking to someone who cared, and not a robotic person just doing their job. I 100% enjoyed working with him, and I'd definitely recommend him to anyone who feels like they want/need a counselor that will actually help you. He remembers the little things, so you know what you say to him matters. Very amazing counselor!
Justin is a great listener and counselor. He has great advice while also helping you come to your own conclusion. I would highly recommend.
Justin Smith is a phenomenal counselor!
So happy I chose him, cannot more highly recommend. He is very friendly and down-to-earth and truly listens. He has a positivity that is grounded and a good sense of humor as well. His questions are thought provoking and get to the heart of the matter. He checks in if I am being silent for a long while, and answers back quickly if I have anything to ask or share, showing that he is an attentive counselor who consistently cares for his clients.
He has helped me reach the goals I came to Betterhelp for, and more. Thank you Betterhelp for having such a good professional on your staff.
Justin is very good at listening and figuring out the best way to treat his clients. When I switched to him, I immediately told him why I stopped working with my previous counsellor, and he was very understanding and promised he would not use the same tactics as them. He even utilizes things like music therapy, which is awesome for me, both as a musician and a person with severe ADHD. Would definitely recommend him.
I would highly recommend Justin. He is a very caring and respectful individual who really wants to help. My journey has just started and know with his help and support I will achieve this.
I am very happy, I feel that he is a perfect match for my therapy needs.
