About me

Welcome! Thank you for taking time to learn more about me. I am a licensed psychotherapist and have worked in the field of social work for 25 years. I have worked in many diverse settings from: hospitals, Dept of Family/Child Services and Community Based to Non-Profits. I have also worked in sober living programs with the intensive outpatient programs and with MATS programs (medication assisted treatment such as, methadone/suboxone)

I believe that helping you on your journey to understanding, happiness and wholeness, is a privilege, not a job. You are entrusting me with your most private emotions, fears and life experiences and I don't take that lightly. While we often times can not control what happens to us, we can control our emotions. We can do this when we understand what is happening to us and most importantly, when we understand ourselves.......Yes, that's right.....when we understand one's self!!! You hold a lot of power in determining the outcome of your treatment and therefore, the decisions you make on a daily basis. You and I, together, will work to uncover your forgotten or untapped, POWER! I utilize several therapeutic approaches: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person Centered, Solution Focused, Mindfulness Based Stressed Reduction and a Strengths Based Approach.

I hold a specialty certification of Certified Advanced Alcohol Drug Counselor (CAADC). I also sit on the board of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Certification Board-Ga. For the past 5 years I have worked in the field of addiction (Substance Abuse). I have learned so much from my clients about the true meaning of being grateful, believing and perseverance. I have worked with many clients that are diagnosed with both, a substance use disorder and a mental health diagnosis. I have worked extensively with family members and loved ones of those struggling with addiction. A primary focus is on codependency and how that ultimately hurts the progress and healing of not only the loved one, but of the client themselves.

YOU have the POWER to restore or create a healthy, happy, YOU...... Let's work together to unleash that power!!!

This is my first time receiving counseling and it has been a positive experience towards my personal growth. Denese has always been attentive, considerate, and talked me through ways to manage my negative thoughts and move forward.

She listens, processes what has been said, and makes great comments and recommendations to help. I’ve only had two sessions with her, but both have been really good.

Denese is by far the best therapist I’ve ever had. She’s tremendously personable, caring, and open-minded. She works with you to help you achieve YOUR goals that you set for yourself. I’m so glad I gave BetterHelp a try. As long as I have Denese, I’ll never see another therapist again.

Denise does a great job of listening and helping you understand things from a different point of view. She’s very patient with me and helps me not think it’s always my fault. All in all a great counselor.
