One of the great aspects of working with a therapist is that you truly get to connect with someone without having to hide any parts of yourself; your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, worries, and doubts can all be shared without fear of judgment. One of the most common words I've had people use to describe me is nurturing. I think this word does a great job of describing my approach. My goal in working with you is to support, encourage, and help you develop and grow in ways that are meaningful to you. Together we can explore what is going on in your life and work as a team to achieve the improvements you are looking for. I also utilize techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, narrative therapy, and mindfulness depending on what fits you and your current challenges.
I am a marriage and family therapist licensed in California and I have worked with clients experiencing a variety of life challenges and mental health diagnoses. I especially enjoy working with people who are struggling with self-confidence and self-esteem, those who are going through a transitional time in their life, and individuals who have experienced trauma. I mostly use a person-centered approach which means you will find that I accept you for who you are, honor your feelings, and trust that you possess what is needed to create the change you would like to see in your life. When it comes to family challenges, I employ a positive parenting and attachment parenting perspective and truly enjoy helping parents implement new and hopefully more rewarding ways of interacting with their child(ren).
One of my favorite quotes is from Eleanor Roosevelt, “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” If you are questioning if therapy is right for you or if you are scared to take the leap, I truly believe that once you take this step for yourself, you will not regret it.

Kaleena is great!
Kaleena has been so helpful to me in such a short amount of time. Her insights and feedback really help me reflect on what I’m feeling and why. Almost too successful, she helped me through one of the toughest things going on in my life. I almost felt like I didn’t need counseling anymore because she helped me resolve it so thoroughly. Briefly considered canceling my subscription, but ended up talking about lots of other things I don’t necessarily see as huge problems, and again, her insights and reflections helped me introspect on my own thoughts and feelings in a way that is very productive and helpful. This is what therapists are for. I don’t feel like I have huge problems anymore, but am really appreciative of being able to bounce things off Kaleena and get great feedback.
