About me

Hi! My name is Kara Peterson and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the Dayton, Ohio area with a supervisory endorsement. I have worked in the field for over 9 years - with clients of all ages and backgrounds and with various needs. My counseling approach is welcoming while challenging. I use a combination of supportive, cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, and strengths based approaches and will tailor my approach based on your needs. I believe that counseling is a collaborative experience and I will work with you to help you identify your personal and mental health goals, while helping you utilize your strengths to live to your full potential. I work alongside you to determine priorities and goals, while identifying strengths and areas of current success. I believe in challenging thoughts and mindsets, in order to see outward (or behavioral) changes.

I graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a Bachelor's in Psychology and then began working full-time on my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling while working full-time as a civilian for the Air Force. I graduated with my Master's degree in 2012 and began working full-time with children ages 2-8 for the next couple of years. From there I went on to work and then manage a mental health program within the juvenile justice system and finally, am working within a school setting. Along the way I have a had part time positions in area private practices and at a church, working with clients of all ages and with many types of concerns. My employment diversity has allowed me to gain a wealth of experience that is invaluable and hopefully benefits you as a potential client!

If you are interested in a Christian perspective I am more than willing to offer that to you.
