My name is Karen F Armstrong. I am licensed in three states as a behavioral health and relationship therapist along with certification in two states as an addiction professional. I am also a certified employee assistance professional/career coach.
I have worked for over twenty years in the field of behavioral health/relationships/addictions. In each area I counsel I provide good listening skills, I am nonjudgmental, insightful and supportive. Through the years I have provided support and to help modify problem behaviors to those that suffer from anxiety, depression, poor coping, stress, grief, OCD, eating disorders and addictions. I have also worked with couples and guided them through their relationship problems including affairs, money, stress, and any issue that occurs within a relationship. I have assisted with family conflicts, communication barriers, divorce and with each family provided tools to help families navigate through their difficult times. For older people, I have dealt with issues that arose as they age, including chronic issues, retirement and children as they left home. When working with a variety of addiction disorders I have taught how to celebrate the good stuff in life and to give oneself permission to seek support when needed. I am a good listener, my role is not to judge but to support and validate while exploring options and other solutions to problems. I am here to help one sort through feelings and discover the reasons behind one's mental health behaviors and relationships. I have worked with trauma survivors in the areas of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and PTSD. I have worked to help increase trust issues, heal and feel safe. I have sat on the Board for Domestic Violence in my home state and have extensive training on PTSD through the military. I worked with the military and their families.
If you have a concern about your career, I am a certified employee assistant, I can help talk through your work problems and discuss workable options.
I also provide Christian counseling, I have a strong faith in something greater than ourselves.

I went through a few counselors before finding Karen. She really listens and let's me talk about what's going on in my life. I am dealing with grief which was effecting my work. The first counselor immediately suggested medication, which is not what a wanted. Karen has never brought it up. I need to learn to control my emotions not just numb myself with meds. She offers sound advice, is available often, and responds quickly.

I gave up counseling years ago because every counselor I've had in the past didn't take my concerns and thoughts seriously or take in to consideration what works best for me. She does take me seriously and doesn't shame me for my decisions. Highly recommend her.

I have been a client of Karen Armstrong since last fall (2019). Previous to working with Karen, I had not been in counseling in almost 15 years. She has been a great listener and supports me without any judgement. She has helped me a great deal with the communication barriers not only between my partner and I but also with my boss and I. This past year, while the world has been living through this pandemic, she has helped me reduce my anxiety and fears that i was going through. I would highly recommend her to anyone that is on the fence about counseling.

I've only been talking with Karen for a few days, but so far I'm very pleased. The messaging feature allows us to communicate when it's convenient for us. She asks questions that make you really think about yourself and your situation. Messaging gives me time to consider my answer, dive a little deeper into myself, which I think is more beneficial than a verbal conversation where you feel pressured to give an answer right away. I look forward to continuing care in this forum with Karen!

My counselor, Karen Armstrong, truly did everything in her powers in order to help me and my other personalities. The knowledge she possesses and the advices she gave me are NOT the only things I had benefited from, the fact of her listening to what I had to say, and the way in which she helped me dealing with my fare share of problems really say a lot about her. 10/10 would recommend to everyone, it was a pleasurable and delightful yet short lived experience having Miss. Armstrong as counselor.

Karen has been extremely supportive and has helped me to get a grip on my personal relationships, with her encouragement I have felt strong enough to sort through personal emotional ties, old patterns and habits. If I feel confused about what to do in a personal relationship situation Karen's expertise has given me insight into things where I would be otherwise blind sighted. I felt comfortable immediately with a Karen as I disclosed some very traumatic and personal information that I do not discuss with anyone else. She is honest and empathetic. She guides you to discover resolutions and coping strategies on your own so that you can cope with issues presently and in the future. She uses open ended questions to allow you to elaborate and find a deeper meaning to what is going on. I have not been using this counselling website very long but I do feel that sharing my issues is helpful and allows me to put my life in perspective.

Karen Armstrong has been so helpful in a very difficult time in my life. Though we haven't met or even spoken over the phone before, I feel a connectedness that I did not feel with my last therapist. I have been easily and comfortably able to open up about myself and my past, as well as my upbringing and my goals for the future. She has been a sounding board and a great source of comfort for me. Though it seems as if I have all the answers and don't ask any questions, I've been able to make progress with her because I don't feel judged on how I am doing as a client in recovery from multiple issues. I feel as though I am able to reach my full potential.

Written on Sep 09, 2015 after therapy with Karen for 1 month
I have come a long way since I first contacted Karen. I have a lot of respect for Karen and gratitude for all the support she gave me. I needed a strong focused person on my side when I was at my lowest point. Karen helped build my confidence up and helped me believe again that I had the right to exist, to be happy, to see my son and to have pride at work. I wrote very long messages, but Karen was able to cut through all my long ramblings and helped me see what was really important. Karen helped me to focus on listing the most important goals and how I could realistically achieve them. With the help of Karen I kept making small progress towards these goals, and with the help of Karen I stayed on track and avoided distractions and overcame setbacks. The most important thing for me at the time was to get access to my son again. I had no lawyer and had to represent myself in court and do all the paper work myself. I was suffering from depression and anxiety and unable to work but with the help of Karen I went through the whole horrible family court process on my own and eventually reached a settlement with my ex-wife’s lawyers. This was incredibly stressful and there were times when the stress was so much I wanted to give up.
My relationship with my son suffered during this period as I did not see him for over 7 moths, but with Karen in my corner I decided to continue fighting.
Whilst going through these horrible court hearings I also somehow managed to restart working again after being off work for 6 months. The hardest part was restarting work as my colleagues were aware that I had been off work due to mental illness and had been hospitalized for this. However I got over this fear of people knowing about me. It has been over two months now since I returned to work again. I have also been able to turn in projects on time, maybe not with exceptional quality but I would say good quality. And most importantly I now have access to my son again. It is not a perfect settlement but I get to see my son which is important, and I can build on this. I have had three days with him so far and they have been amazing days.

In the short time that I have been talking to Karen she has clarified so much of my confusion that I can't imagine life without her. Her intuitive powers are like a laser beam that cut through the endless static and confusion that comprises most of my thought processes. She knows just what to say and when to say it and is proving to be priceless in guiding me through the minefield that is my life right now.
Just within the last 20 minutes she has clarified a point that has haunted me for years but that no one else has been able to clearly define. The hard part, is facing how good she is because with Karen, you have to face some hard facts about yourself that aren't always complimentary. But I appreciate this since it shows she isn't just phoning her work in, she is right there with you. Karen is a rare gift and a person that I feel privileged to talk to. I'm at a kind of crossroads in my life and she came along at just the right time. I was out of answers and only had questions and she is brilliant at answering them.

When I came to Karen I was a wreck. I was drinking heavily and at the end of a bad divorce. Karen helped me to figure out my triggers for drinking. She helped me focus on getting through each stressful situation without drinking and helped me to work through the problem instead of reaching for a bottle. Karen also helped me bring closure to my marriage. Together with Karen I have found some peace and have not had a drink in quite sometime. Karen is a very thoughtful and insightful therapist. She is skilled and compassionate. After many years of abuse I felt that no one could ever understand or even care about what I am going through. Her special talents have helped me in my difficult times to move forward and work through the impossibilities. I give her a tremendous thanks for being a part of my life and for being the therapist that I need to grow and be successful on my walk out of domestic violence and the shame I've carried for so long. I will take what she has taught me throughout my life journey. Karen has the gift of connecting from the heart. She leads you with questions to discover the strength inside to find what you need within yourself to recover and move forward in life. She knows when to push, when to cheer and when to let you be, very valuable when you've been taken down to your knees by the struggles in life.
As a victim of domestic violence, with Karen in my life I really feel that I finally have someone in my corner that can help me become a survivor and no longer a victim. When I had no one else in this world Karen has came along side with compassion and understanding to show me the strengths within myself to get up every morning and take on the impossible.

So very grateful for her patience in helping me resolve so many issues with grief. After her compassion, I was able to sort through issues that I've allowed to prevent me from moving forward.

Karen has been very patient and kind and has offered lots of good advice. IT has helped simply having someone non judgemental to talk to and when ever I have sent a message Karen has replied very quickly so I have had the feeling that she has been there for me. Thank you. It's been a very helpful process.

Karen has a way of helping me through my problems while also helping me keep and maintain my dignity during some of the worst problems I was facing.

I had a massive breakthrough that although recent, has already changed my life so much and so positively. It's a change for my entire future, and has blown my mind! It was something I never would have known or imagined to do by myself. With Karen's advice, I have given myself permission to act a certain way, to keep some of my emotions for myself, and to not be walked all over. The result with these small behaviour changes has been so rewarding, and really nothing has changed, my feelings certainly haven't - just how I act and how i am perceived. I would not have had this breakthrough without Karen. She is also extremely prompt, replies fast, listens, understands, validates everything you say. You feel 100% certain she is on your side even if she guides you in a different direction. I have had bad counselling experiences in the past and know that many counsellors do not have that skill.

Karen is very understanding and easy to talk to. She gives you time to explain and makes the effort to understand when you can not find the words yourself. She helped me through a very difficult time where I felt completely helpless. She was there whenever I needed and did not limit the time on sessions to help me through the problems I was experiencing. I would recommend this site and Karen specifically to anyone who needs that extra support. I believe, she is/has and will continue to help me through the struggles I face with my mental health.
