About Me

Therapy can be hard work. We often feel worse before we feel better. However, if we give up before we get started, nothing ever changes. Are you as happy in life as you could be? Do you feel like you are stuck and things will never get better? The past does not define who you are as a person. Let me help you figure it out. Start moving forward today.
I have a Master's degree in Counseling, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work and am also a Certified Alcohol And Addiction Counselor. I have over 20 years experience working in both inpatient and outpatient settings with both mental health and substance abuse treatment. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, addiction issues, and personality disorders. I also helped many people who have experienced physical trauma or emotional abuse. I have worked in the jail and court settings and have an understanding of the legal process. I am currently employed full time at a prison working with the sex offender population.
My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic, dialectical behavioral therapy, and rational-emotive counseling. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
I am caring yet straight forward. I will be empathetic but I will hold you accountable for your actions. I believe everyone can move forward and find healthy ways of coping with life. Therapy takes patience and hard work but the results can be a life worth living.

Karen has helped me through some difficult times and I’m continuing to improve myself with her help. I feel very comfortable opening up to her about my issues.

I’ve only had 1 video session with Karen so far, but feel that she is a very insightful listener. Really allowed me to get out my feelings & thoughts, while also offering up challenging things to think about regarding them without being rude or hurtful. She is direct, while also being kind & allowing room for me to get out how I feel. I’m very happy with my experience so far & feel it will only continue to get better as I continue counseling with her.

Karen is one of the best counselors I have had the opportunity to work with. She is professional and caring, a rare combo to find in the field in my opinion. Karen takes the time to work someone, set goals, and pushes accountability. For me, I needed this. She's wonderful and I highly recommend her!

Karen is kind and genuine. She has a calming, soothing, warm voice and tone which made me feel at ease. My session was only 30 minutes but she allowed me to share, she listened, she reminded me that I’m taking positive steps for myself. I recommend Karen.
