Hello! I am Karen Rafalik, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who has worked in the behavioral health field for the past 15 years. I decided I wanted to work as a counselor after taking a career aptitude test in middle school. I didn’t fully appreciate the strength it took to open up to a complete stranger until I started to work with individuals for the first time. It truly takes a lot to share your inner most thoughts and fears with a stranger, so let me tell you a little more about my style so you can decide if we would be a good fit.
My experience working as a counselor spans 3 years of direct practice and includes a variety of settings, though primarily in a hospital and clinic setting. The areas I help support include depression, anxiety and substance use. I also worked with individuals and families coping with grief and end of life issues. Some of my more specific therapeutic approaches include Strengths-Based counseling with a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Since I believe in collaborating with you and I am flexible, we might work on some other techniques, like Mindfulness, depending on what you need.
My personal belief is that therapy is beneficial when seen as a collaborative partnership. I am here to understand you and your unique experience and beliefs. I believe that perception is key to understanding why we feel the way we do and how we react to things beyond our control. I want to get to know you so I understand how to better support you. I am non-judgmental, and I also believe that sometimes we need another person to challenge our inner thought patterns so we can move forward.
Overall, I want to hear what you're going through, how you're handling things, and help you to work toward tangible, realistic goals. Let's start with one session at a time to see how we work together. I'm excited to get to know you better and work with you!
Availability: I am available most weekday evenings, beginning at 6:30 PM Eastern Time, and during the days on weekends for live sessions. I also respond to messages throughout the day.

I’ve been working with Karen for almost 2 years now and I feel like I’ve grown a lot. I still have work to do and appreciate all the help, support, guidance and patience Karen has had with me.
Karen is amazing! She listens to my problems and offers new perspectives and advice on how to solve them or look at them in a new way. I highly recommend Karen.
Karen is kind, open, thought provoking, attentive and solution forward. She's all about understanding how to get you to understand yourself and earn your goals through self evaluation, self love, and the recognition of the world around you. Karen is easily a person that you'll want to keep on your corner.
Karen has been so helpful to me and I feel much better overall when I talk with her. She's great at guiding me through my problems, and I look forward to chatting with her.
