Karen Wood, LPC
About me
Hi there! My name is Karen and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in the District of Columbia. I've been helping people help themselves for 15 years now and have worked in a variety of settings, but for the past eight years have worked in a residential treatment center (aka rehab) focusing on young adults, addictions, mood and anxiety disorders, and trauma.
I utilize a variety of perspectives: existential, cognitive-behavioral, and humanistic. What that really means is that I want to help you discover what gives your life meaning and help you identify what thoughts and behaviors get in the way of realizing that meaning, that I will have the utmost respect and regard for you while we work through this process, and that I am going to meet you where you are, not where I, or your parents, or your parter, or anyone else thinks you should be.
I utilize warmth and humor, and feel that our relationship and interactions as two human beings is paramount in our interactions. I look forward to assisting you on your journey to wellness!

Karen is fantastic. She really takes time to figure out what thinking and emotional 'tools' you need in your journey to heal, learn about yourself and support you without judgement whether you progress or fall behind. I worked with Karen for about a year now and it was worth everything, she was essential to my healing!
