About Me
Hi there! My name is Karen and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in the District of Columbia. I've been helping people help themselves for 15 years now and have worked in a variety of settings, but for the past eight years have worked in a residential treatment center (aka rehab) focusing on young adults, addictions, mood and anxiety disorders, and trauma.
I utilize a variety of perspectives: existential, cognitive-behavioral, and humanistic. What that really means is that I want to help you discover what gives your life meaning and help you identify what thoughts and behaviors get in the way of realizing that meaning, that I will have the utmost respect and regard for you while we work through this process, and that I am going to meet you where you are, not where I, or your parents, or your parter, or anyone else thinks you should be.
I utilize warmth and humor, and feel that our relationship and interactions as two human beings is paramount in our interactions. I look forward to assisting you on your journey to wellness!

Karen is fantastic. She really takes time to figure out what thinking and emotional 'tools' you need in your journey to heal, learn about yourself and support you without judgement whether you progress or fall behind. I worked with Karen for about a year now and it was worth everything, she was essential to my healing!

She has worked with me on things that most would not, and I am grateful for that.
Karen Wood has been here for me since I signed myself up for this helpful place. I can honestly say, that I felt she understood where I was coming with with my issues and familial problems and was helping me to realize that the ways I need to use for me to operate at my best operation level was to let these people know where their boundaries with me lies. I am no longer afraid of hurting anyone elses's feelings if I have to express to them MY feelings as well. My feelings are just as valid and important as anyone elses. And I have realized that sometimes there are time I just need to back away from some people that are in my life and are very toxic to me and my family, and I do not need to be any part of that. Thank you Karen Wood for helping me to set up healthy boundaries sessions! You have helped me fee like I am getting my priorities and myself back into order again. Thank you Karen Wood! You are the best! Will definitely come back to you in future councel
