About me

Hello! My name is Katherine. Thanks for reading my profile.

Counseling can be a transformative experience. Counselors are a neutral party who can provide support, guidance and perspective during a difficult time in your life. It can be hard to open up to a person who is initially a stranger but it can be very rewarding to build a connection with someone who listens to you, validates you and respects you.

I received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The college I attended emphasized advocacy, working with the client as they are and being able to assist people from any walk of life.

I have worked in an inpatient psychiatric hospital for five years and for the last three years I have worked with people doing group therapy at an Intensive Outpatient Program. Throughout my career, I worked with individuals along of spectrum of severity in the presentation of their illnesses or problems. I have utilized evidence-based treatment like Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialetical-Behavioral Therapy, Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy
And reality therapy as needed to help clients meet their goals. Licensed counselors have similar training but adopt different approaches or techniques. The most important part of counseling is the relationship between the client and the clinician.

My clients tell me that they find it easy to talk to me. My objective as a therapist is to provide a safe space for people to express what is happening in their lives free of judgment or being told what to do. My role is to provide insight, options and moral support as you begin the road to recovery. Together we can collaborate to identify your strengths, concerns and goals we both agree will be beneficial for you.

You deserve to be as happy and healthy as possible. I would encourage you to reach out for treatment in one form or another because the benefits are limitless. If you believe we would be a good match please contact me because I would love to assist you in your journey to recovery.

Katherine is great, a very caring therapist. Since the outbreak we have not had much time with her but we are busy with three kids, and it can get wild. However, we are wanting to get started up again soon as she has been great.

Katherine is very calm and compassionate. Which is exactly what I needed during such an uncertain time. In just two weeks I can tell that I am changing the way I think, about myself, and it feels good. Katherine is goal oriented, we set goals every week and she checks in with me during the week to see how it’s going. How awesome is that? I would definitely recommend Katherine Ambriz to anyone seeking guidance.

Throughout my sessions with Katherine I noticed that she was a great listener who was able to extrapolate the essence of the problem and provide a helpful insight into its solution. She also had a to identify or help identify the problem.
