About me

Hello! My name is Katie Helmick and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 5 years of experience. I have worked with a variety of patients in my career including veterans, families, couples, children, and older adults. My expertise lies in assisting those with depression, substance use disorders, relationship challenges and infidelity, trauma, grief, and caregiving stressors. My style is an attachment based, relational and client centered approach. I work from a theoretical base of Psychodynamic Theory and am strongly committed to issues of equality, diversity and inclusion with all of my patients. I utilize multiple treatment modalities to ensure I am providing the most effective and well-rounded care to address individual needs and goals.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Social Work. I pride myself on having an educational background that has focused in mental health so strongly, while also working with the person as a whole, seeing all aspects of life that can contribute to challenges, rather than just focusing on the symptoms themselves.

My hope is to be available to assist you at less conventional times in order to fit your schedule, and as I work a full-time position with the Department of Veteran Affairs. I will be available to you on nights and weekends to fulfill the role. The rapport between therapist and client is one of the most valuable aspects to psychotherapy being effective, and I look forward to building these relationships with you.

Exactly the therapist I needed.

Katie has been beyond wonderful. I am grieving a traumatic death, and started seeing Katie within days of the event. She has been a great match for me from day one and has provided evolving support and therapy as I go through the grieving process. Katie is a great listener, patient, nonjudgmental, and creates an environment during our video appointments where I can be entirely myself so that she can provide the best tools for me and my situation. Katie has been flexible with my appointment times, and has made getting the help that I need accessible even with an unconventional work schedule. I have seen much improvement in my mental well-being since seeing her and am grateful for my therapy sessions with her.
