About me

Welcome!
As a therapist, I see my role as one of accompaniment, which is walking with an individual during a difficult time in a person's journey. My work is to listen well and do my best to understand a person's situation so that I can be a supportive presence, empowering the individual to move towards a greater sense of well-being. Since one size does not fit all, I draw from a variety of theoretical approaches and strategies based on the needs, preferences, and personality of the individual as well as my understanding of best practices. Some of the approaches I draw from frequently include psycho-dynamic, systems, solution-focused, cognitive behavioral, and motivational interviewing. In general, my approach emphasizes the therapeutic relationship, is strength-based and trauma-informed.

For more than 12 years, I have had the privilege of working with people of all ages, from many different cultures and socio-economic circumstances. I've accompanied young mothers, people living on the streets of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, women, children and young adults in transitional housing due to homelessness, people in various stages of the (addiction) recovery process and hospice patients and their families. I have lived and worked cross-culturally spending a total of five years in Haiti. My undergraduate degree in special education, as well as my experiences and training, have prepared me well to accompany individuals who learn differently, think differently or are wired differently than the average person. Many of the people I have worked with have experienced trauma in its many different forms including natural disaster, oppression due to economic and social injustice, domestic violence, and various forms of abuse. I have worked successfully with people desiring a supportive presence during a life transition or loss as well as those who have struggled with multiple major challenges for much of their lives.

If you are seeking a compassionate therapist to walk with you at this time in your life journey, I invite you to contact me to determine if I am the therapist for you. Whether you choose to work with me or another therapist, I wish you the best as you journey toward greater healing and wholeness because your life and happiness are important.

She listens to me and she gives me advice.

She is very patient and gives great reinforcement. As someone who is as absent minded as me, If I don't respond after a couple of days, she will check in with me, which prompts me to say "oh yeah.." She's great!

I feel very grateful to have been matched with Kathleen. I wasn’t sure what to expect with BetterHelp and am so happy to have found this resource. Kathleen is very balanced in her counseling - offering support and guidance and suggestions when it makes sense, letting me just talk it through when I need to. I really appreciate her kind, calm, thoughtful approach; she makes me feel heard and understood and more confident and comfortable in myself. Thank you Kathleen!

Sister Nealon has been the calming guiding voice in my life that is in the middle of a storm. She has made me feel more then comfortable with opening up about every detail that is important to the need of this counseling. She has also challenged me in ways to truly uncover the reasons for my emotions.

Sister Nealon has been a fantastic counselor for me. She is quick to validate my feelings and equally quick to provide strategies for me to implement. I’m learning so much about appropriate boundaries, coping skills and more. Sister Nealon also has a soothing, understanding way of speaking that is very comforting. I would absolutely recommend her as a counselor.
