As a marriage and family therapist licensed in California with 10 years of experience, I've worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, trauma, and life transitions. I have worked with clients who have experienced domestic violence, emotional abuse, and sexual assault.
My counseling style is warm and interactive. A foundational principle in my practice is that everyone is treated with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, Gestalt and trauma-focused counseling. I tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
It takes courage to work toward a more fulfilling and happier life. The first steps towards a change are often the hardest. If you are ready to take that step, I'm here to support and empower you.
I look forward to working with you!

Kathleen Ries has been a great help to me. I respect her advice, she listens, is insightful, and makes helpful suggestions that have helped me to see a path. She is the best therapist I have ever had.
Kathleen is incredible and one of the most valuable resources in my life. She is helping me grow as an individual and be a better partner / friend / person to the entire world. She’s responsive, listens very well, and has lots of expertise on a variety of topics. I recommend Kathleen with the highest regards.
Kathleen was such an incredible help for me in my journey of self-discovery. I've always been feeling so lost and stuck in life and being able to talk to her was an incredibly rewarding process full of interesting conversations. Her warm presence and intelligence made the process very eye-opening and rewarding, and I'm so glad I had her as my therapist. I will never forget our conversations and they'll continue to guide me throughout life in a great way!
Kathleen is an excellent counselor. She clearly has many years of experience, an active listener, very thorough, supportive. A joy to work with
Kathleen has been great at reading through the lines of what I have to say and zeroing in on the underlying issues that are causing stresses and concerns. This is my first experience with therapy as an adult and I have been pleasantly surprised.
Kathy is very empathetic and understanding. She makes me feel very comfortable and offers great perspective in different moments in my life . I greatly appreciate her she came in a dark time in my life and has assisted me tremendously in finding my way back.
I think I talk too much during the sessions but that gives Kathleen lots of room to see what’s going on inside my head. I enjoy listening to her feedback and discovering things about myself that I previously did not now. The three sessions with her I’ve been an interesting journey.
Kathleen has been very helpful throughout our sessions and is extremely kind and caring. Would recommend her without a second thought!
Kathleen is a wonderful counselor and helped me think through what is likely to be the biggest decision in my life. She brings patience, compassion, and insight to every discussion, and helped me feel more confident about my path in life.
Kathleen Ries has been an amazing counselor. She listens, respects my perspective, brainstorms solutions with me, and facilitates a safe and welcoming counseling session. Every time after we have session I feel relieved and better prepared mentally and emotionally to handle my problems.
Very patient and understanding, as it’s something that I need.
