Hello, my name is Kathy Ekren. I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT #94889) in the State of California and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC #60444728) in the State of Washingtion and a Certified Brainspotting Therapist. I received my Master of Arts in Community Counseling from Gonzaga University in 2009. I became licensed in the State of Washington in 2015 and licensed in the State of California in 2016. I have received advanced training in brainspotting, which is my primary and preferred approach for treatment currently. Brainspotting is a neuro-experiential therapeutic modality where the client chooses the issue to work on and, together, the clinician and the client locate the brainspot in the visual field that corresponds to the activation in the body from the issue being worked on. The client mindfully focuses on the brainspot while simultaneously focusing on what is arising in their inner world: memories, images, thoughts, sensations and emotions. This provides the brain the opportunity it needs to integrate the issue with its historical roots while re-wiring itself and healing.
I see my role as a supportive one in your journey of self-reflection. I believe brainspotting to be the fastest and most lasting path to healing. Unresolved negative experiences and past traumas, which may express as anxiety or depression or compulsive behaviors, are stored in the subcortical brain. Brainspotting facilitates access to these areas so that they can be healed and integrated. Brainspotting is a powerful modality to develop self-esteem and confidence in meeting life's challenges and overcoming obstacles, such as performance anxieties or navigating life transitions. The human brain contains roughly the same number of neurons as there are stars in the Milky Way, with an infinite capacity for re-wiring itself. Your brain knows how to heal. Brainspotting is the catalyst for that healing process.
I look forward to working with you and supporting you on your journey of transformation.

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Kathy Ekren. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Kathy is a warm, compassionate, and understanding therapist that is very easy to talk to. She is good at being with intense traumas and the darker sides of life while still holding a compassionate lens toward integrating them. I have found profound realizations and deep changes in some of my very old limiting patterns working with her. The technique she uses, Brainspotting, is a very illuminating process and offers access to deep healing in ways that talk therapy alone has not offered me. I highly recommend her and encourage anyone that works with her to give Brainspotting a try as well.
