About me

Wow! There are a lot of therapists on this site and I truly hope that you find the "right" therapist FOR YOU. Try not to get overwhelmed, think about it this way... You've already taken progressive steps by making efforts to search for a therapist. Finding the “right” person to help you through these challenges is important, and I want to provide you with some information about me in order to help you decide if my experience and style is a good match for you.

Hello! My name is Kawana Burnett and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Masters of Social Work from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I have worked in my field for 7 years and specialize in working alongside adults dealing with various life stressors and a variety of mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, bipolar, acute stress, PTSD, and adjustment disorders. I have extensive work in crisis intervention and dealing with suicidality. I recently worked with incarcerated individuals, and my treatment approaches include: Humanistic Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I may use aspects of many treatment approaches tailored to meet your individual needs.

Interesting Fact #1: I was involved in 7 different sports teams and am still the most clumsiest, unathletic person you'll meet. Go sports!

Interesting Fact #2: In my spare time, I look for activities and hobbies that I can do in my spare time and for the most part it leads to a food-related activity. Finding new restaurants is the best!

Sub-interesting Fact #2: I have ordered vegetarian and vegan food with bacon added because I do love vegetarian and vegan foods and I also believe that bacon makes everything better.

Feel free to reach out if you believe I will be a good fit. YOU GOT THIS!

My experience with my therapist Kawana Burnett is beyond my expectations. I’ve dreaded this process for a very long time and now I look forward to our weekly session.
