About me
Hello and welcome! I'm glad you're here. I am a licensed mental health counselor in both New York State and Washington State. I earned my master's degree in mental health counseling at the University at Albany in 2012, and since then, have worked in a broad range of settings - from outpatient community mental health to inpatient psychiatry. I have the greatest experience working with adults with mood disorders, trauma-related disorders, and co-occurring disorders.
Making the decision to seek counseling can be a difficult one. Many questions may be swirling through your head, and this is normal! My approach is one that resembles a partnership with my clients. You can expect compassion, empathy, and a non-judgmental stance. Together, we will work to identify the issues you'd like to work on and find helpful ways to get to the place you'd like to be. I tend to focus on the negative thoughts you may be having which can contribute to unpleasant emotions. In addition, I find that utilizing mindfulness-based strategies are helpful in coping with an array of unpleasant emotions that accompany these thoughts.
If you find that we could could be a good team, please reach out. I will be glad to answer any questions you may have or provide information that will help you ease your way into counseling.
Again, thank you for being here. I look forward very much to working with you!
Warm regards,
Kayla
