About me

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist had have worked in a variety of clinical settings. Most recently, I have worked with the military in their Family Advocacy Program providing services to families experiencing domestic violence or child abuse. I also have experience working in a residential facility with adults who have pervasive mental disorders and substance abuse issues.

I am experienced with treatment of emotional problems that occur in adults and children. I have specialized training in working with individuals who have experienced anxiety, depression, trauma including domestic violence, sexual abuse, and trauma from combat experiences. I have completed specialized training in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. I believe in the power of positive self-talk and learning healthy coping strategies that work for the individual client.

I believe in providing treatment that is goal-directed and based on your unique strengths. These goals are established through the assessment but can be altered if we discover an underlying issue as we go through the therapeutic process. All goals and treatment plans are developed and reviewed periodically with you so you have a thorough understanding of the process and your progress. I welcome feedback from my clients regarding what is and isn’t working for them. I prefer a collaborative and supportive approach to therapy and my goal is to create a safe space for clients to grow and heal.

I look forward to working with you.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Kelly Axthelm. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Kelly is great at gently nudging me to confront things I'm avoiding. She empowers me to decide what I want to deal with - if I'm not ready I can say that - but when I tell her I want something to change she'll push me to work through it. I love that she's both kind and straightforward - she lets me choose when I'm ready to talk about things but also lets me know that if I keep avoiding working through something it's not going to change. I feel very safe with her and when she calls me out on things it feels supportive and helps me move forward.
