About me

Welcome, and thank you for visiting my counseling profile! I am so glad you're here.

My name is Kelly Banas and I am a collaborative, engaging, and compassionate licensed mental health therapist. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship between therapist and client creates the condition for change in counseling. Operating off of this humanistic principle, I am highly empathic, accepting, non-judgmental and open to my client’s past and current experiences. Beyond this important foundation, I use an integrated approach of solution-focused, narrative, dialectical behavioral, cognitive behavioral and mindfulness-based interventions. I often conceptualize systemically and will be curious about how the communities or systems that my clients belong to impact their individual functioning. I believe the purpose of my work as a counselor is to encourage the facilitation of my clients' insight and self-awareness, which will empower them to make the changes and access the answers that may have been temporarily stuck, but have always been a part of them.

I am a Nationally Certified Counselor and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Washington and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado. I've worked throughout Washington and Colorado, as well as in Oregon, in a variety of different counseling settings, including outpatient community mental health centers, private clinics, and school mental health clinics. I work with clients from diverse backgrounds around a variety of topics, including anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem, body-image, family and relational stress, life changes and transitions, and parenting challenges. I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a post-graduate certificate in Couples and Family Therapy. Prior to my graduate training, I completed my undergraduate degrees in Spanish and History and spent time living in Spain. Concurrent to my graduate training, I worked extensively in case management and counseling with immigrant and refugee communities and am passionate about providing culturally-attuned counseling and counseling in Spanish.

I am inspired by this quote by Brene Brown: "Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light."

Kelly is a phenomenal person. I am always looking forward to speaking with her and it really helps my mental state of being when I talk to her. She really knows how to help, how to guide and how to help me prosper.

I came to this service burnt out and needing some help but unsure of what I would find. I was paired with Kelly and through contact, immediately knew I was in good hands. Kelly is invested and visibly passionate about what she does. I would highly recommend working with Kelly!

Kelly exceeds my expectations every session. She consistently makes an effort to understand me. She tailors the sessions exactly to my need. She's well educated, highly-skilled, professional, but also makes me feel so comfortable like I'm out for coffee with a girlfriend. She's relatable and compassionate. I leave each session feeling better about myself after talking with her.

Kelly has been a great help over the past couple of weeks - I feel like she has been on the same page as me with regards to the issues I'm working through, and has provided really great insights/asked insightful questions that help me address some of these issues. She's really hit the nail on the head, and I feel that we've done more work on issues in two weeks, than I've gotten from other counselors in 2 years. She listens, is empathetic, very kind. She responds to my messages, and is great to speak to on the video chats. THANK YOU!!!

Kelly is so great. She has really helped to touch on the root of the matter in such a short period of time. I'm absolutely impressed!

Kelly is super kind, understanding, and just a joy to talk to. She has extremely warm, down-to-earth energy, and I have benefited tremendously from being able to video chat & message with her (her messages are always very thoughtful and reflective). I have felt myself lifted out of depression and I am now able to experience my life in a more even keeled manner, as opposed to large up-and-down fluctuations. Kelly has a wealth of tools at her disposal, but she does not push anything on you – you can go at your own pace.
