About Me

My name is Kelly Sorensen, and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor working in private practice in Freeport, Maine. My heart, as a mental health professional, is to help people move toward growth, hope, and healing.

Whether you are struggling to cope with difficult life challenges, need help processing past or recent trauma, or would like support moving toward a personal life goal; counseling can be a powerful tool in your journey. My approach is rooted in the belief that counselors are not fixers or rescuers; but rather, encouragers, equippers, and fellow journey partners. I am here to listen to your story, equip you with evidenced-based skills, and pass on helpful information from my clinical training and professional experience. Together we can begin the journey of processing past hurts, identifying and leveraging your strengths, and accessing valuable resources and skills that can help you move towards your personal goals.

I believe counseling should be unique to the individual. As such, my therapeutic model aligns most with a cognitive-behavioral approach, but I also pull from other evidenced based modalities and techniques as appropriate. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, and trauma; among other mental health diagnoses. Sessions focus on self-awareness, choice, goal setting, problem solving, and skill building. I also offer Christian Counseling upon request.
