About me

Thank you for considering me to join you on this journey of self-discovery. I would like to take a moment to notice and acknowledge your courage for seeking guidance during a transitional period in your life. It takes a great deal of bravery to seek support. Taking this initial step is a courageous act of self-love and an effort to be celebrated. My name is Kelly Spence and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Florida. I have practiced in the helping profession for 10 years. My experience in the field has awarded me the privilege of working with a litany if diverse populations. I have provided psychotherapy in the context of couples and family counseling as well as individual therapy with adults and children. I also spent time in my career offering bereavement services to thermally ill clients and their loved ones. Since giving birth to my first child, I became certified with Postpartum Support International (PSI) to acquire specialized skills to support mothers with Postpartum Depression and other Perinatal Mood Disorders. In my practice, I strive to honor each individual's personal goals and the direction in which they wish to go. I like to remind my clients that they are in the "driver's seat" and I am merely seated on the passenger's side assisting in the navigation of their life; a unique roadmap we develop and maneuver together. I tend to glean from a strengths-based approach wherein one's resilience and perseverance harness opportunity for growth. This modality is derivative of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which teaches the client how to change negative thought distortions. This school of thought posits that altering one's thoughts can also change behaviors that no longer serves us. Mindfulness is another tool I often reference which compliments the basis of CBT. This intervention teaches one to acknowledge unpleasant thoughts in a non-judgmental way and granting yourself permission to let those beliefs go like the passing of a leaf in a stream. Empowerment theory, among other pivotal frameworks, encompasses the essence of my clinical work. I truly believe that challenges are an opportunity for personal growth and self-reflection. I am honored to listen to your story and collaboratively bend the narrative to create the life you envision for yourself.
